UNCASVILLE, CT (August 17, 2010) – Mohegan Sun is proud to announce a special performance by The Band Perry during the 2nd annual ‘MADD About Dancing’ competition in the Uncas Ballroom on Friday, October 1st.

The up and coming country sensations will perform a special set during the dancing competition that will feature the chart topping hits “Hip To My Heart” and “If I Die Young.” The performance will highlight an evening filled with Connecticut celebrities dancing in various styles including the Tango, Rumba, Waltz and Swing.

Discovered by Country sensation Garth Brooks’ manager Bob Doyle, The Band Perry was signed in 2009 by Republic Nashville and hasn’t looked back since. The band immediately released their debut single “Hip to My Heart” which peaked at #20 on the Billboard Country Music charts earlier this year. Their second single “If I Die Young” followed and also rose to the Top 40 on the charts. They are currently working on their self-titled debut album which will be released later this year.      

This is the second year Mohegan Sun has teamed up with MADD, WCTY and Arthur Murray Dance Studios to host a night filled with fun, entertainment and competition as attendees raise awareness and funds for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Doors to the Uncas Ballroom will open at 7:00pm where guests will have the opportunity to enjoy hand-passed hors d’oeuvres and participate in a silent auction featuring Steiner memorabilia, as well as autographed guitars from famed musicians and more before the celebrities take the stage at 8:00pm with their professional dance partners.

The group of celebrities includes: Veronica Ballestrini, local Country artist; Reischea Canidate, on-air personality at ESPN; Brittany Decker, Miss Connecticut 2010; Mike DiMauro, Assistant Sports Editor and Columnist for the New London Day; Mark Dixon, Meteorologist at WFSB; Dave Elder, WCTY Program Director and Afternoon Host; Charles Jaskiewicz Norwich Board of Education member; and Bram Weinstein, on-air personality at ESPN.

For the competition, each celebrity will be paired with a professional dance partner from Arthur Murray Dance Studios and will perform two short routines. Female celebrities will perform the Tango and Rumba, while male celebrities will try their hand at the Waltz and Swing.

Tickets to “MADD About Dancing” are $50.00 per person and benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving. They are on sale now and at the following locations: all participating Arthur Murray Dance Studios, the MADD state office in East Haven, the WCTY building in Norwich and at Mohegan Sun’s Box Office.

The auditions are being held on Monday, July 26th from 10:00am to 5:00pm in The Cabaret Theatre at Mohegan Sun. Upon completion of auditions, the winner will be announced between 5:30pm and 6:00pm in The Shops at Mohegan Sun concourse.

Contestants can register from 7:30am to 10:00am in front of The Cabaret Theatre. On-site registration is limited to the first 200 eligible contestants, with another 50 contestants being randomly pre-qualified through the online enter to win contest on ctnow.com.  Melissa Sandvig is a classically-trained freelance dancer from Los Alamitos, California.  She is the first ballerina to ever finish in the top 10 of So You Think You Can Dance and went on to finish in the top six.  Melissa is also a certified Pilates instructor and teaches ballet.

Brandon Bryant, a contemporary dancer from Miami, Florida, began dancing ballet at age ten and was the runner-up finalist to winner Jeanine Mason in Season 5 of So You Think You Can Dance.  One of Bryant’s most memorable dance moments was when he performed for Madonna at her daughter’s birthday party. Bryant also recently appeared as a dancer in the hit Fox series Glee in the episode “Bad Reputation.”

A major event in the entertainment world, the annual Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant, will be holding its final competition at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday, August 22nd at 1:00am.  Thirteen finalists will perform to showcase their grace and talent during this remarkable evening.

UNCASVILLE, CT (June 17, 2010) – Mohegan Sun has once again teamed up with the Connecticut Authors Trail and is set to cap off the great book signing tour on Thursday, September 23rd with acclaimed author of Murder, She Wrote, Donald Bain.  The Connecticut Authors Trail kicks-off with popular author Jane Haddam. Other library signing dates will feature remarkable authors like Pam Lewis, Douglas Clegg, Denise Gadreau, Susan Campbell, Christine Whitehead, Suzy Graf, Mark O’Neill and M. William Phelps.

Donald Bain’s book discussion will take place at 7:00pm in The Cabaret Theatre followed by a book signing.  Bain is the author/ ghost author of more than 100 books, many of which are best-sellers.  His prolific career began when Bain worked as a writer/director for Peckham Productions where he created films for clients like Avon, American Airlines, Pan Am and IBM.    His work includes both fiction and non-fiction including the popular series Murder,  She Wrote, which consists of 33 original novels.  His airline comedy book, Coffee Tea or Me?, was published nearly thirty years ago and together with its sequels has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.  Bain also wrote and hosted the nationally-syndicated series The Media Watch. Bain’s appearance and signing at Mohegan Sun will be the final stop for the Connecticut Author’s Trail.

The Connecticut Authors Trail focuses on some of the state’s most brilliant authors and takes pride in bringing together a diverse collection of writers whose styles cover everything from suspense thrillers to romantic novels and self-help to local libraries across eastern Connecticut. The Backstreet Boys keep the party going with their official after party in  Ultra 88 Night Club following their performance on Tuesday, June 15th in Mohegan Sun Arena. The party starts at 9:00pm, and appearances by some members of the Backstreet Boys will take place after their show in Mohegan Sun Arena.
