Gigantour — the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine—returns in 2013 with an incredible new line up for the tour. For over 20 years, Zakk Wylde served as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, a collaboration that produced a string of multi-platinum albums, including Osbourne’s biggest selling album No More Tears (Wylde wrote all of the music) and Ozzmosis. Death Division is the new Heavy Metal band out of Hollywood, California, and was founded by bass player Jerry Montano, whose past bands include Danzig, Nothingface, Down & Dirty and tour mates Hellyeah, drummer Tim Yeung who has played with Morbid Angel, Divine Heresy, Hate Eternal and Nile, and features Sean De La Tour on vocals and guitar, and Rick Di Marco on lead guitar. STYX – Tommy Shaw, James “JY” Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips (along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo), have performed more live since ’99 than all of the previous years of its career combined. Two Super-Bowl appearances, Pollstar Box Office chart-topping tours with Def Leppard, Journey, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company (to name only a few), two more studio albums and no end in sight, STYX continues to conquer the planet, one venue at a time.
Spawned from a suburban Chicago basement in the early ‘70s, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual Arena Rock prototype by the late ’70s and early ’80s, due to a fondness for big rockers and soaring power ballads.
By the early ’70s, REO Speedwagon’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording, jump started the burgeoning Rock movement in the Midwest. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more. Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980’s explosive Hi Infidelity. Black Sabbath launched their world tour on April 20th with two shows in Auckland, NZ. They are now in Australia for performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, before heading to Tokyo for the first-ever Ozzfest in Japan on May 12.
Along the overseas tour, Black Sabbath—Ozzy Ozbourne, tony Iommi and Geezer Butler– are previewing music from their forthcoming 13. On the new album, due out June 11th, the band that defined Heavy Metal picks up immediately where they left off with eight sprawling songs (five of them are over eight minutes) that possess every ounce of the maniacal vitality of the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees’ trailblazing work in the ’70s. Songs such as “End of the Beginning,” “Loner,” “Dear Father” and “Age of Reason” reinforce 13’s testament to the enduring relevance of Black Sabbath’s long-running reign. Produced by Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy
winner, two of those as Producer of the Year), 13 will be released on Vertigo (worldwide) and Vertigo/Republic in the U.S.
