Each band member will add their handprints in cement, joining a long list of global treasures before them.
When The Smashing Pumpkins first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. They spun together Rock, Pop, Shoe-Gaze, Metal, Goth, Psychedelia, and Electronic into a kaleidoscope of saccharine melodies, fuzzy distortion, bombastic orchestration, incendiary fretwork, eloquent songcraft, and unshakeable hooks. Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new – and it still is today.
As a result, The Smashing Pumpkins have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and collected two Grammy Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and an American Music Award. Their catalog is highlighted by the Platinum Gish (1991), the quadruple-Platinum Siamese Dream (1993), Diamond-certified Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), Platinum Adore (1998), and Gold Machina/The Machines of God (2000).
In 2018, they embarked on one of their most successful tours ever, the Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour, followed by Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. Meanwhile, 2020 saw the release of the band’s eleventh full-length and latest double album, CYR. As prolific as ever, The Smashing Pumpkins confirmed they will release more music in 2022 as they resume touring.
Mohegan Sun Arena finished 2021 with its first “#1 Indoor Arena” ranking for its capacity in the world according to Pollstar and VenuesNow, ranked among the top 10 venues in the U.S. regardless of size based on ticket sales, and was named “2021 Innovator of the Year” by Celebrity Access for its ViacomCBS residency. In recent years, the “Most Beloved Venue in America” has also been the “#1 Casino Venue in the World,” “#1 Social Media Venue in the World” and a seven – time national award – winner for “Arena of the Year.” For more information on concerts and other great events, visit Mohegan Sun. “Some 30 years ago, as The Smashing Pumpkins, James Iha and I began a musical journey in the cramped rear bedroom of my Father’s house. And so it’s magic to me that we’re able to coalesce once more around the incredible Jimmy Chamberlin, to celebrate those songs we’ve made together,” shared Corgan.
The band broke news of the tour this morning with a dramatic video featuring original Siamese Dream album cover stars Ali Laenger and LySandra Roberts. Watch the clip HERE. Embed tour promo video – youtu.be/_Axm5b3i1gA.
The monumental Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour, which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the band’s formation, will highlight music from the group’s inception through 2000, and will exclusively feature material from their groundbreaking debut Gish through Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Adore and Machina. Longtime Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder will also take part, as the band moves to a three guitar lineup to better emulate the signature tones and textures of their albums.
“This show and staging will be unlike any we’ve ever done, and will feature a set unlike any we’ve ever played. For if this is a chance at a new beginning, we plan on ushering it in with a real bang,” added Corgan.
Formed in Chicago, IL in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins released their heralded debut album Gish in 1991 and found mainstream success with 1993’s 4x multi-platinum Siamese Dream and 1995’s 10x multi-platinum Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. With nine studio albums and over 30 million albums sold to date, the GRAMMY®, MTV VMA and American Music Award winning band remains an influential force in Alternative Rock.
