PBR Returns To Mohegan Sun In October

The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) are returning to southeastern Connecticut for the Mohegan Sun Invitational presented by Cooper Tires on Friday, October 1st, Saturday, October 2nd and Sunday, October 3rd.  Friday’s event begins at 8:00pm.  Saturday’s event begins at 7:50pm and Sunday’s will begin at 2:00pm.

There will be three rounds of the Top 40 bull riders matched against the top bulls in the PBR. The scores from the three rides will be combined, and the Top 15 riders will advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round following intermission on Sunday afternoon, where they will compete with one more bull. The rider with the highest total score after the championship round will be declared the winner.

The PBR is having the deepest title race in history with nine lead changes and six different riders on top of the BFTS standings and fifteen different winners through the first twenty events. The Mohegan Sun Invitational will be the second to the last event of the regular season as riders battle to qualify for the 2010 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals on October 20th-24th in Las Vegas and the chance to win $1 million.

Celebrate The 136th Annual Kentucky Derby At Mohegan Sun

An exclusive party will be held in the Uncas Ballroom on Saturday, May 1st

Celebrate the 136th “Run for the Roses” at Mohegan Sun on Saturday, May 1st with the annual Mohegan Sun Kentucky Derby Party in the Uncas Ballroom.  Festivities kick off at 10:00am, where guests can enjoy great food and drink specials, as well as guest handicappers Jim Mazur from Progressive Handicapping, Inc. and popular WEEI Sports Radio network talk show host Mike Mutnansky will be on-hand. 

Guests joining the fun for this exclusive event will be able to take advantage of thirty betting terminals, nine large screens and a delectable Derby Buffet with unique drink specials.   There will be open seating for approximately 1,000 people; seating is solely on a “first-come, first-serve,” basis.   All guests must be 21 years of age or older to participate.

Once guests get settled in, they have the opportunity to gain some expert advice on which three-year-old thoroughbred to cheer on this year, as special guest handicappers Jim Mazur and Mike Mutnansky will be available.

Mazur is the President of Progressive Handicapping, Inc. and also the author of The Triple Crown Undercard Handicapper 2007.  On top of being an excellent handicapper, Mike Mutnanksy can be heard regularly on Boston, Massachusetts’ WEEI Sports Radio. 

After grabbing some key advice, all that’s left to do is make your picks.  Guests who make a $50.00 wager will receive an official pass to the Derby Buffet and with a $25.00 wager guests will receive a commemorative Kentucky Derby Festival souvenir.  Advance wagering will also be available on Thursday, April 29th and Friday, April 30th for guests who would like to get their picks in early.

In honor of the Kentucky Derby, traditional Mint Juleps will be served at the party featuring the main Kentucky Derby affiliated brand, Maker’s Mark®.  Absolut Vodka will also have their version of the Mint Julep, called the Jungle Julep, available at the party in the Uncas Ballroom.

Those not at the event can still enjoy a Mint Julep which will be served at table tents set up outside of Todd English’s Tuscany, Leffingwells Martini Bar, Bow & Arrow Sports Bar and Bobby’s Burger Palace.  Guests can also enjoy the action of the race at several other locations including: Bow & Arrow Sports Bar, Sunset Bar, Harvest Moon Bar, Leffingwells Martini Bar, Star Bar, Taughannick Falls Bar, The Brew Pub at Mohegan Sun and The Lodge.

Peter Manfredo Jr. & Matt Remillard co-headline Hometown Heroes fight card

On Saturday, May 22nd, TKO Boxing Promotions returns to Mohegan Sun with its nationally-acclaimed Hometown Heroes To World Champions series, headlined by the return of Peter “The Pride Of Providence” Manfredo Jr. battling Chicago’s Angel “El Toro” Hernandez for the vacant IBO Middleweight Title. The co-main event will feature Manchester, CT’s own Matt “The Sharp Shooter” Remillard defending his NABF Featherweight Title.  The action begins at 7:30pm.

Manfredo Jr. made his return to Mohegan Sun on January 29th with an outstanding shutout ten-round decision over Minnesota veteran Matt Vanda, acquiring the NABF Middleweight Title in the process. In front of a large and passionate crowd, Manfredo Jr. dominated Vanda from the opening bell. With a record of 34-6-0 (18 KOs), Manfredo is currently ranked #11 in the world by the World Boxing Council.

Hernandez, a native of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, 30-7-0 (17 KOs), has battled numerous world champions and contenders over his fourteen-year career including Winky Wright, Frankie Randall, Kassim Ouma, Wilfredo Rivera and J.C. Candelo.  Known for his fan friendly all-action style of fighting, Hernandez won both of his starts in 2009, a unanimous decision over highly regarded prospect James “Buddy” McGirt Jr. on January 16th and a sixth round stoppage over Antwun Echols on August 21st.

The 23-year-old Remillard is one of the most highly-regarded prospects in boxing. After winning all four of his bouts in 2009, he raised his undefeated record to 21-0-0 (12 KOs) on January 29th at Mohegan Sun with a third round stoppage of Rafael Lora where he defended his NABF Featherweight Title and earned him a top 10 world rating.
