As announced last week, Katy will perform at this year’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 13th.   Six-time nominee, Katy is up for four awards this year including the coveted “Album of the Year,” along with “Best Pop Album,” “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” for “Teenage Dream” and “Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals” for “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg.  Katy has also been nominated for two BRIT awards for “International Album” and “International Female Solo Artist.”  The BRIT awards will be handed out live on February 15th at the O2 Arena in London.
Teenage Dream was released in August 2010 and has since sold 5 million copies worldwide.  The album’s first single, “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg was the biggest selling song of 2010 according to Soundscan with 4,398,212 tracks scanned.   After “California Gurls” spent six weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Katy scored two follow-up #1’s with “Teenage Dream” and her current single “Firework,” making her the first female artist in 11 years to score three Billboard #1 singles from the same album.
Katy is gearing up to launch the album’s 4th single “E.T.” which will impact radio next month.  She will soon shoot the video with director Floria Sigismondi (Marilyn Manson, Bjork, David Bowie, Christina Aguilera, Muse, The White Stripes).
Earlier this month, Katy won two People’s Choice Awards for “Favorite Female Artist” and “Favorite Online Sensation” — awards voted on by fans.  Katy won a People’s Choice Award in 2009 for “Best Pop Song” with her debut anthem “I Kissed A Girl.”   Over the course of her career, she has also won a BRIT Award, two MTV Europe Music Awards, an NRJ Music Award and two Teen Choice Awards, among other international honors.
Mohegan Sun Arena was ranked the 4th busiest venue in 2009 by Billboard Magazine and was the 2008 recipient of a Country Music Award for “Casino of The Year.” For more information on concerts and other great events at Mohegan Sun, visit mohegansun.com.  For information on this week’s schedule, call the Entertainment and Special Events hotline at 1.888.226.7711, ext. 27163.
