Mohegan Sun’s World Of Holiday Marvels Is Back In Time For The Holiday Season

Festivities include a life-size gingerbread house, holiday décor, a tree lighting ceremony and a special Nutcracker performance

UNCASVILLE, CT – Experience the magic of the season as Mohegan Sun’s World of Holiday Marvels kicks off on Thursday, December 5th. Come discover new tree scenes, ornaments, giant snowflakes and much more.

Starting at 6:00pm on Thursday, December 5th, holiday cookies, cocoa and cider will be available at the incredible life-size Gingerbread House in The Shops concourse. Created by Executive Pastry Chef Lynn Mansel and Mohegan Sun’s Culinary Pastry Team, this 28 foot tall masterpiece, made out of over 20,000 pounds of royal icing and cookies, is a must-see for the whole family. Visitors of all ages can walk through the house to view the small rooms filled with candied decorations guarded by four 7 foot edible nutcracker soldiers.

At 7:00pm, witness the lighting of the outdoor tree on screens throughout The Shops concourse featuring a spectacular indoor fireworks display. Afterwards, The Albano Ballet Company’s production of The Nutcracker will take place in the Mohegan Sun Arena at 7:30pm. Audience members will be captivated by lavish costumes, new theatrical scenery, international stars and a cast of over 100 dancers, making this the perfect evening to get into the holiday spirit.
Throughout the property, Mohegan Sun has set up a variety of holiday decorations. Casino of the Earth features ornaments and illuminated wreaths measuring over ten feet tall.  The Shops concourse has been turned into a winter wonderland with a giant wreath, custom-designed snowflakes suspended over iceberg islands and life-size nutcracker statues. In the hotel lobby, a beautiful decorated tree defies gravity as it stands atop the reflecting pool.

New this year to the marvel collection is the 22 foot tall, handcrafted spiraling Sky Tree located in front of Ben & Jerry’s. Inspired by Mohegan Tribal traditions, this marvel is decorated with intricate beadwork, sculpted clay feathers and natural elements that encompass the spirit of the Mohegan Tribe. Be sure to also check out the fully restored ornament stack at Summer Valet as well as new additions to the Smudge Pot display in Earth Promotions.

‘Tis The Season For Mohegan Sun’s World Of Holiday Marvels

On November 29th, celebrate the return of holiday décor inside our own winter wonderland
Dust off your holiday cheer and join Mohegan Sun in saying “season’s greetings” to the holidays!  On Thursday, November 29th at The Shops at Mohegan Sun, come celebrate the return of Mohegan Sun’s World of Holiday Marvels as the property turns into a winter wonderland this November and December.  Don’t miss out on our four-foot tall ornaments, “ice” creatures, Christmas trees and our newest “marvel,” a tree scene in the Hotel Lobby!
Starting at 6:00pm on Thursday, November 29th, holiday cookies, hot cocoa and hot cider will be available at the Gingerbread House located in the center of The Shops concourse.  Bring the family and walk through this life-size, 28-foot masterpiece that includes a fireplace and 7-foot soldiers at each doorway.  After, enjoy as Nutcracker ballerinas put on a performance for the crowd!
Then, at 7:00pm, watch on screens throughout The Shops concourse as the outdoor tree gets lit up for the first time this season!
During the night, let our labeled maps, available in The Shops concourse, take you on a self-guided tour of all of Mohegan Sun’s World of Holiday Marvels.
Throughout the month of November, Mohegan Sun will serve as a drop-off location for the “One Warm Coat” coat drive.  Clean out your closets and drop off any unused coats at the Summer Coat Check throughout the month.

Mohegan Sun Presents A Johnny Mathis Christmas

Kick off your holiday festivities early this year when one of America’s beloved classic crooners, Johnny Mathis, performs a special Christmas show inside Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday, December 19th at 7:00pm.

Mohegan Sun Kicks Off the Season With World of Holiday Marvels

Celebration includes a life-size gingerbread house, holiday décor, a tree lighting ceremony and charity donations
Mohegan Sun’s World of Holiday Marvels will jump start the season with a Wild Winter Wednesday featuring fireworks, music, treats, a toy drive and Mohegan Sun’s fourth annual tree lighting ceremony on December 3rd. 
Wild Winter Wednesday begins at 5:00pm on the rooftop of the Thames Garage. Guests will enjoy holiday favorites from carolers and servings of hot chocolate and gingerbread cookies. At 6:00pm, Mohegan Sun’s 66-foot holiday tree will be lit on Mohegan Sun Boulevard followed by a fireworks display by Pyro FX. The ceremony concludes with a special guest appearance from Santa at 7:00pm. Also on the rooftop the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys For Tots Program, in conjunction with the Hartford Festival of Light will accept donations of new, unwrapped toys. Shuttles will be provided from the Sky Valet to the Thames Garage throughout the evening.
Inside, The Shops at Mohegan Sun is once again home to a 24-foot life-size gingerbread house. Created by Executive Pastry Chef Lynn Mansel, and Mohegan Sun’s culinary team, this year’s house holds over 4,500 pounds of icing, 150 pounds of white chocolate, and forty pounds of dark chocolate and 120 pounds of milk chocolate.
Approximately 6,525 gingerbread bricks will make up the gingerbread house. Assisted by Mohegan Sun’s culinary team, children from local Brownies, Oakdale Elementary School, Mohegan Elementary School, and Cutler Middle School’s Amistad Friendship Society each inscribed their names on gingerbread bricks. Visitors of all ages can walk through the home to view the tiny rooms inside filled with an edible fireplace, stockings, a holiday tree, a chocolate rocking chair and a chocolate glass with assorted cookies for Santa to enjoy.
Additionally, Mohegan Sun’s culinary staff will construct a gingerbread gazebo that will serve as a gift wrap booth and a food drive drop off location from December 8th through December 24th. Between the hours of 12:00pm and 8:00pm, purchases can be brought to the gazebo to be wrapped for $3.00 to $10.00 per gift. All proceeds will benefit and the Salvation Army of Southern New England. Donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items will be accepted for donation to The Gemma E. Moran United Way Food Labor Center.
Mohegan Sun also serves as a toy collection site for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys For Tots Program, in conjunction with the Hartford Festival of Light. New, unwrapped toys for children will be accepted until December 11th at the Summer and Riverview Coat Checks.
Throughout the property, Mohegan Sun along with The Becker Group has set up a variety of holiday decorations. Casino of the Earth features ornaments and illuminated wreaths measuring over ten feet tall.  The Shops at Mohegan Sun will bring the picturesque New England winter indoors with 17-foot ice light curtains and custom-designed snowflakes suspended over iceberg islands.  The hotel lobby will be transformed into a whimsical world brimming with adventure including an 18-foot tree of cascading water in an icy atmosphere filled with frosted trees and friendly forest animals.  A 16-foot illuminated wreath and a theatrical lighting display of snowflakes will fall above the already spectacular Taughannick Falls.
