POKERSTARS.NET NORTH AMERICAN POKER TOUR MOHEGAN SUN SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The full schedule for the PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour Mohegan Sun event has been announced, with the $5,000 Main Event set to take place from April 9th-13th and the wider festival beginning on April 5th and ending April 15th.

Phil Ivey playing in the inaugrual PokerStars NAPT event at Mohegan Sun last year.

Like previous NAPT events, Mohegan Sun will also feature a $10,000 + $300 Bounty Shootout tournament, which is an open event with an 81-player capacity. The two-day event begins on April 12th with the first flights, while the final table takes place on April 14th. Both the Main Event and the Bounty Shootout will be filmed by 441 Productions and broadcast on ESPN2 in May and December 2011.
Ray Pineault, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Office at the Mohegan Sun, said: “We are thrilled to once again be hosting the North American Poker Tour here at Mohegan Sun. Last year’s inaugural event was such a huge success and we anticipate this year’s event will bring out even more big names from within the poker community.”
NAPT Mohegan Sun highlights
Mohegan Sun, based in Uncasville, Connecticut, will host 35 separate events and be a major draw for many of the world’s top poker players. A vast array of Team PokerStars Pros will be in action, including last year’s Main Event winner Vanessa Selbst, along with Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Victor Ramdin, Joe Cada, Jason Mercier, Pat Pezzin, Greg DeBora, Anh Van Nguyen and Marcello Del Grosso.
Selbst, who came first and won $750,000 at last year’s event, said: “Winning my first major main event at NAPT Mohegan Sun was one of the great highlights of my career. It was my first major main event win, and in my home state of Connecticut, which made it so much more meaningful for me. I can’t wait to get back to Uncasville and make it two in a row!”
Jeffrey Haas, spokesman for NAPT, said: “We are delighted to be heading back to Mohegan Sun where last year we had a field of 716 players for the $5,000 NAPT Main Event. The players loved the first class experience of the poker room, and we are looking forward to partnering with the casino once again and hoping to build on the success of last year with even bigger fields and prize pools.”
Festival schedule
The full tournament schedule includes several No Limit Hold’em events, across a variety of formats including Turbo, 6-max and Deep Stack. Meanwhile, a $2,500 Heads-up event with a cap of 32 players is expected to draw some high-profile names, and mixed game players will be thrilled to see a $300 H.O.S.E. event. There are also ‘Steps’ satellites running to the Main Event, which will enable players to qualify for the $5,000 showpiece tournament for as little as $260. Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier Crowned 2010 PokerStars.net NAPT Mohegan Sun $25,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout Champion

Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier wins $475,000 in PokerStars.net NAPT Mohegan Sun $25,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout

Donning the exact same shirt he wore two Aprils ago when he won the 2008 EPT San Remo Main Event and armed with a little help from one of his favorite hands, Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier won the 2010 PokerStars.net NAPT Mohegan Sun $25,000 High Roller Bounty Shootout.

Mercier battled heads-up opponent Sam Stein for the better part of three and a half hours before the most pivotal hand of the tournament took place.
Mercier moved all-in over the top of a three-bet from Stein holding pocket threes and Stein looked him up with the ace-jack of diamonds. When the money went in, Stein had Mercier covered by just 13,000 in chips.
Stein spiked a jack on the flop to take the lead, but the turn and river gave Mercier a runner-runner six-high straight to win the pot. Stein was eliminated from the tournament two hands later.
“Pocket threes were really lucky for me when I was seventeen or eighteen and that’s why I made my (online) name “treysfull,” but I haven’t really won any enormous pots with threes until that one,” Mercier said. His former online screen name was “treysfull21.”
The win marks Mercier’s 2nd High Roller title in as many years. The 23-year-old pro from Davie, Florida also won the 2008 EPT London High Roller Event (£516,000) and came close to winning a 3rd High Roller title back in February at the L.A. Poker Classic (3rd – $141,780).
Runner-up Sam Stein has had a successful year thus far in his own right. Stein finished runner-up to Tom Marchese at the NAPT Venetian Main Event ($522,306) and posted another 2nd place finish in a $5,000 preliminary event at the PCA in January (168,390). Stein earned $75,000 in prize money at the NAPT Mohegan Sun HRBSO; $60,000 for winning his round one table and $15,000 in bounties.
PokerStars.net-sponsored player Faraz Jaka finished third, collecting $80,000 in prize money for his efforts; $60,000 for winning his round one table, and $20,000 for accumulating four knockout bounties. Jaka is the only player to have final tabled both $25,000 HRBSO events. Jaka placed 5th at the NAPT Venetian HRBSO back in February ($95,000).
FINAL TABLE PAYOUTS:
1st: Jason Mercier, Team PokerStars USA – $475,000 ($350,000 final table, $60,000 round one table, $40,000 bounties, $25,000 entry to next HRBSO)
2nd: Sam Stein, USA – $75,000 ($60,000 table; $15,000 bounties)
3rd: Faraz Jaka – $80,000 ($60,000 table; $20,000 bounties)
4th: Matt Glantz, USA – $70,000 ($60,000 table; $10,000 bounties)
5th: Shawn Buchanan, Canada – $80,000 ($60,000 table; $20,000 bounties)
6th: Luis Vazquez, USA – $70,000 ($50,000 table; $20,000 bounties)
** Each bounty = $5,000
The NAPT Mohegan Sun HRBSO attracted 35 players including Team PokerStars Pros Justin Mercier, Daniel Negreanu, Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein, Greg DeBora, Marcello Del Grosso, Pat Pezzin and Anh Van Nguyen.
