Mohegan Sun Celebrates the Year of the Goat on March 1st
Uncasville, CT – Mohegan Sun is getting ready to celebrate the year of the Goat on Sunday, March 1st. Following the tradition, Mohegan Sun is ringing in the Lunar New Year with a variety of events including a highly anticipated concert in the Mohegan Sun Arena, a traditional Lion Dance, the Fortune God, an appearance by the winners of the 2014 Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant, special menu items at Sunrise Square and bus giveaways.
The celebration begins with a performance in Mohegan Sun Arena by famous pop singer G.E.M. from Hong Kong.  The two concerts will take place at 1:00am and 2:00pm on March 1st. Red Envelopes will be distributed for Asian bus line runs. This giveaway starts on February 19th, the first day of Lunar New Year, and lasts through February 27th.  During this period, guests who ride the Asian buses can receive a red envelop with cash varying from $5 to $100 inside. The Fortune God will also visit Mohegan Sun concourse from Noon – 1pm on March 1st for another special Red Envelope giveaway and photo opportunity. There will also be Chinese cultural craft demonstrations such as calligraphy and paper-cutting at the Shops concourse.
Also on March 1st, don’t miss the traditional Lion Dance which will tour through the property at Mohegan Sun. The Lion Dance has long symbolized the exorcising of evil spirits and summoning luck and fortune. The performance will start at 1pm heading from Sunrise Square and making its way through The Shops at Mohegan Sun, Casino of the Sky and Casino of the Wind.
The Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, Kevin Brown, Mohegan Sun’s President and CEO, Bobby Soper, and Vice President of Asian and Far East Marketing, Kelly Leung, will be present, in addition to the Money God and the top two winners from the 2014 Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant. A team of Kung Fu masters from Calvin Chin’s Martial Arts and Academy in Newton, MA will perform in The Shops at Mohegan Sun starting at 1:30pm.
From February 11th to March 5th, Mohegan Sun will be decked with festive decorations. Starting on February 19th, the Chinese New Year festive dishes will be served over in Sunrise Square. These include 2 lb.
