Super Saturday Lives Up To Its Name At Mohegan Sun: Big Finish To 3rd Annual Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction

2018-07-02

UNCASVILLE, CT (June 25, 2018) – When you do the math, it appears that 1 Dodge Demon + 1 Dodge Viper = $1,000,000.

The sale of a truly dynamic duo – the last-production 2018 Dodge Demon and the last-production 2017 Dodge Viper – billed as The Ultimate Last Chance. Head to head on the auction block, both dressed in brilliant Viper Red, the high-horsepower pair of Mopar muscle cars brought the packed house to its feet when the gavel came down on a cool $1 million, all of which will go to the United Way, FCA/Dodge’s charity of choice for more than 60 years. And the American Heart Association also benefited from the historical sale, with the 10% buyer’s fee supporting Barrett-Jackson’s yearlong Driven Hearts charity initiative for the organization.

The second charity sale of the day was dedicated to the AHA: a sparkling white 35th Anniversary Edition Chevrolet Corvette generously donated by Darrell and Charmaigne Pullen, a Kentucky couple who were moved by the sale of an identical car for the Driven Hearts campaign at the 2018 Scottsdale Auction. The Pullen family joined the AHA’s Debra Wilson and local AHA members on the auction block to watch the ’Vette bring in $60,000, another huge step in raising much-needed awareness and funds to battle heart disease, America’s #1 killer.

Another big highlight of Super Saturday was the colorful visit of the goldRush Rally to the auction site at Mohegan Sun, with Barrett-Jackson, Shell and Pennzoil rolling out the “gold carpet” to welcome them.

For the last decade, goldRush Rally has welcomed distinguished guests, VIP celebrities and automotive influencers to the #1 luxury rally in the country. The visit to Barrett-Jackson marks the first-ever stop at a collector car auction as they make their way across the country during their 10th annual event, covering 10 cities in 10 days. WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg was among the 160 participants in 80 extraordinary cars, three of which roared onto the Motor Trend Live Stage, sharing their remarkable story with onlookers.

The day began with the sale of the premier pieces of automobilia from the over 450 items on offer at this year’s Northeast Auction. Those that rose to the top were spectacular indeed, including a large, gas-powered vintage U.S. Air Force promotional jet “go-kart” and an iconic Mobil Oil Pegasus animated neon service station sign, each of which sold for $28,175. A hand-built 1/3-scale 1956 Corvette SR Prototype go-kart from the Ashton Collection brought in $27,600, while two impressive neon signs – another Mobil Oil Pegasus from the 1950s and a 1940s Chrysler-Plymouth example – went to new homes for $25,875 and $23,000 respectively.

The most-anticipated of the 650+ collector cars at this year’s event had their turn on the auction block on the final day, with some impressive sales and two world records set, including the sale of a 1973 Dodge Challenger Custom Coupe for $92,400 and a 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost for $203,500, which was also the #2 sale of the day. Other top sales of Saturday – and of the auction – were a custom 1967 Chevrolet Nova known as “The InNOVAtor” for $275,000, a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon for $198,000 and a 1967 Shelby GT500E Super Snake for $192,500.
