Welcome the Year of the Dragon with a day full of festivities on Sunday, February 11th
UNCASVILLE, CT (January 24, 2024) – Mohegan Sun is gearing up to celebrate Lunar New Year on Sunday, February 11th! Following tradition, celebrations for the Year of the Dragon include the Fortune God, Red Envelopes and more!
The festivities kick off at 11:00am when the winners from the 2023 Miss Chinese Beauty Pageant join the Fortune God to celebrate at The Shops Concourse. The Fortune God will be handing out Red Envelopes, which signify good luck and fortune, to guests while supplies last. At 1:00pm, Mohegan Executives will give remarks before the annual Lion Dance and Firecracker display takes place on Mohegan Sun’s new and improved Sun Patio. Guests can watch the Lion Dance make its way through The Shops Concourse, ending at the Mohegan Sun Arena Sky Entrance. The Lion Dance has long symbolized the exorcising of evil spirits and summoning of luck and fortune.
The Year of the Dragon represents good luck, strength, health, and also the male element Yang. In China, the dragon is viewed as a symbol of imperial power and authority. People born in the Year of the Dragon (1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and now 2024) are said to have personality traits aligning with charisma, confidence, intelligence and power.
