New Year’s Eve at Mohegan Sun will be an event for everyone to enjoy with a variety of live entertainment, free giveaways, dining and shopping specials, Player’s Club promotions and exclusive parties at Mohegan After Dark’s Night Club, bars and lounges.
Giveaway/Countdown Celebration
Mohegan Sun will kick off the night of celebration at 4:00pm as complementary top hats, tiaras and noisemakers are distributed at Mohegan Sun’s coat check & valet locations throughout the property to all guests. At 9:00pm, the giveaways will also be available at Birches Bar & Grill, Leffingwells Martini Bar and Todd English’s Tuscany.
The center of excitement will be located in The Shops at Mohegan Sun where DJ Melee will spin the latest mainstream hits until 1:00am. Cirque entertainers will perform jaw-dropping feats in various locations of The Shops concourse and a live feed of the annual ball drop in Times Square will project above the DJ booth.
Exclusive New Year’s Eve Parties
Ultra 88 Night Club will be showcasing the popular celebrity disc jockey, DJ SL who is set to spin the crowd right into the New Year. He began making his mark nationally and internationally in major night clubs in Kansas City, Massachusetts, Seattle, the Bahamas, Cancun and Montreal doing celebrity and corporate events. These include My Super Sweet 16 with DJ Skribble, parties for the cast of The Hills and Entourage as well as the New England Patriots and Boston Celtics. Last Shows of the Year
Hilarious comedian and host of the hit show Chelsea Lately on E!, Chelsea Handler will take the stage for a very special New Year’s Eve performance with special guest Sarah Colonna at Mohegan Sun Arena on December 31st at 8:00pm.

Shopping and Dining Specials-New Year’s Eve
The Old Farmer’s Almanac General Store will run a two hour special on New Year’s Eve from 10:00pm to Midnight as guests will receive 20% off all purchases, excluding clearance and promotional merchandise.
Kids Quest and Cyber Quest will offer can’t-miss events and activities for kids from 10:00am to 3:00am on New Year’s Eve. Kids Quest will feature crafts, games, hats and blowers, balloon drops and prizes periodically throughout the day. Cyber Quest will host a 15,000 ticket giveaway from 2:00pm to 11:00pm with 1,000 tickets being awarded per hour. At Midnight, one lucky winner will take home a grand prize of 5,000 tickets. To enter, children can earn one entry ticket per hour. Kids who are MVP Club Card holders will receive two entry tickets per hour and two bonus tickets will be awarded for daily Quest Bonus challenges. Children must be present to win.
Todd English’s Tuscany will offer a Chef’s Tasting Menu that starts out with Pear and Baby Green Insalata served with Crumbled Maytag Bleu Cheese, Candied Walnuts and White Balsamic Vinaigrette followed by Fennel Rubbed Diver Scallops with Root Vegetable Risotto and Porcini Butter. The third course is made up of a Surf and Turf combination of Petit Filet with Cipollini Demi, Charcoal Roasted Prawn,
Haricot Verts and Silk Potatoes. For dessert, a Mini Fallen Chocolate Cake with Tahitian Vanilla Gelato and a Tuxedo Strawberry. This meal is offered at $55.00 per person and $90.00 per person with wine pairings. Dinner will be served from 4:30pm – 12:00am.
Big Bubba’s BBQ will offer a Surf & Turf dinner consisting of Filet Mignon & Stuffed Shrimp with Potatoes and Vegetables for $49.95.
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville will serve a Steak Diane dinner made up of a ten-ounce Sirloin topped with Shallot Mustard, Demi Glace and Sherry with Sautéed Mushrooms, Roasted Potatoes with Truffle Oil and Grilled Asparagus for $27.95.
Birches Bar & Grill will serve a three-course meal special for New Year’s Eve that starts with a choice of Soup or Salad followed by Roast Prime Rib with Green Beans Provençal and Roasted Fingerling Potatoes or Baked Stuffed Salmon with Crabmeat Stuffing, Sherry Lobster Cream Sauce, Asparagus Spears and Roasted Garlic Smashed Potatoes. Dessert will be Dolly Sin Chocolate Cake with Strawberries and Vanilla Sauce. This meal is offered at $37.00 from 3:00pm-1:00am. Birches Bar & Grill hours of operation will be from 11:00am – 5:00am on New Year’s Eve and 9:00am-3:30am on New Year’s Day.
Seasons Buffet will feature Creole Cajun Style Catfish, Lobster Macaroni and Cheese as well as Roast Chinese BBQ Pork with Asian Vegetables. Sun WineFest 2011’s lineup of celebrity chefs and winemakers will feature top personalities in both industries at Mohegan Sun on Friday, January 28th ; Saturday, January 29th and Sunday, January 30th. Seasonal festivities will include a 24-foot gingerbread house, fashion show, holiday décor and a tree lighting ceremony
Mohegan Sun’s annual World of Holiday Marvels celebration will bring holiday cheer, festivities and an array of entertainment to guests beginning with a fashion show and a tree lighting ceremony slated for December 5th.
Holiday Fashion Show
Mohegan Sun will host a holiday fashion show featuring fashions and products from The Shops at Mohegan Sun at 4:00pm on December 5th, in the shops concourse. The event will give guests an opportunity to enter for a variety of prizes and check out the latest designs and holiday fashion trends at The Shops at Mohegan Sun. Participating shops include Brookstone, Cachè, Chico’s, Galina’s Boutique, Lux Bond & Green, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, Mohegan Sun apparel, Sunglasses USA, Sun Shoes, Swarovski, Tiffany & Co. and Trailblazer.
Tree Lighting Ceremony
Mohegan Sun will kick off the sixth annual tree lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 5th. The ceremony begins at 5:00pm on the rooftop of the Thames Garage including an appearance from Santa and a holiday Acapella performance by talented musicians, What’s On Tap? Following the performance, guests will be greeted with a few words from Mohegan Sun executives and the lighting of the 66-foot holiday tree, located on Mohegan Sun Boulevard.
Immediately following the ceremony at 5:30pm, a fireworks display by Pyro FX will light up the sky. Dollar refreshments will be available including Hot Dogs, Pretzels & Soup which will benefit the New London Firefighters Burn Foundation Inc., as well as complimentary Cider, Hot Chocolate and Gingerbread Cookies. The ceremony concludes at 6:00pm.
In the event of inclement weather, the tree lighting ceremony and fireworks display will be rescheduled for December 6th. All other events will still take place.
28-Foot Gingerbread House
Mohegan Sun’s holiday mainstay returns to The Shops at Mohegan Sun in the form of a 28-foot life-size gingerbread house. Created by Executive Pastry Chef Lynn Mansel and Mohegan Sun’s culinary team, this year’s house incorporates approximately 6,525 gingerbread bricks, four 7-foot soldiers made out of milk chocolate and Rice Krispies®, man-made icing, and white, dark and milk chocolate. Assisted by Mohegan Sun’s culinary team, local children from Mohegan and Oakdale Elementary Schools will assist in the construction process. Visitors of all ages can walk through the home to view the tiny rooms inside filled with a standout stone fireplace made from gingerbread and dark icing grout, chocolate stockings, a holiday tree, a chocolate rocking chair and a chocolate glass with assorted cookies for Santa to enjoy. Topping off the house is a cupola and weathervane with four chocolate chefs.
Holiday photos will also be available on selective dates throughout December as guests will be able get their picture taken next to the gingerbread house.
Mohegan Sun’s Facebook Ugly Sweater Contest
Mohegan Sun really gets into the holiday spirit with the return of the “It’s Not You, It’s The Sweater” Contest. The contest is currently in progress and runs through December 8th at 10:00am. Participants are asked to send a photo of themselves in an ugly holiday sweater to [email protected] and include their full name, email address and phone number.
On December 9th, the collection of ugly sweater photos will be posted in an album on Mohegan Sun’s Facebook page where users can vote for their favorites by clicking the “like” option by the photo. The photo with the most “likes” as of 10:00am on December 15th will win a $250.00 gift card to The Shops at Mohegan Sun.
Holiday Décor
Throughout the property, Mohegan Sun has set up a variety of holiday decorations. Casino of the Earth features ornaments and illuminated wreaths measuring over ten feet tall. The Shops at Mohegan Sun will bring the picturesque New England winter indoors with 17-foot ice light curtains and custom-designed snowflakes suspended over iceberg islands. The hotel lobby will be transformed into a whimsical world brimming with adventure including an 18-foot tree of cascading water in an icy atmosphere filled with frosted trees and friendly forest animals. A 16-foot illuminated wreath and a theatrical lighting display of snowflakes will fall above the already-spectacular Taughannick Falls.
Maps highlighting the World of Holiday Marvels displays can be found at any Player’s Club booth throughout the property and during the tree lighting ceremony. Guests can also visit select outlets in The Shops at Mohegan Sun to purchase a United Way Wrist Band for $2.00. All proceeds benefit United Way programs.

Massachusetts resident takes home over $400,000 inWheel of Fortune® slot machine jackpot

2nd Annual Mohegan Sun WineFest Grape Stomp and the 7th Annual Mohegan Sun Oyster Open will highlight Sun WineFest weekend
Grape stompers and oyster shuckers will be put to the test during the Grand Tasting at Sun WineFest 2011. Guests can watch the competitions heat up as part of their Grand Tasting admission on Saturday, January 29th and Sunday, January 30th.
Mohegan Sun WineFest Grape Stomp presented by [yellow tail] ®
Things will get a little messy as sixteen teams compete to out-run, jump and stomp the competition during the 2nd Annual Mohegan Sun WineFest Grape Stomp presented by [yellow tail] ®. The event will begin on January 29th, at 4:00pm, on the main stage during the Grand Tasting. Teams will kick off their shoes and socks and have three minutes to stomp as much grape juice as they can out of a vat of grapes. Returning to this year’s competition will be last year’s winners, The Wine Divas.

Professional shuckers from the best restaurants, raw bars and shellfish and seafood companies on the Eastern Seaboard will compete for a first place prize of $3,500 cash and the championship belt. Second and third place winners will take home $1,000 and $500.00, respectively.
