ABOUT MORRIS DAY & THE TIME: Born in Minneapolis, Day went to school with Prince Rogers Nelson and sang in Prince’s first band Grand Central. The Time was originally created as Prince’s alter ego to be seen as the cool, street wise Funk band contrasting Prince’s more soulful R&B sound. After looking at several lead vocalists, Prince wanted someone with mad talent so he cast his high school friend the funky, the fabulous Morris Day. Soon after, Morris Day and The Time were cast in Purple Rain which captured the exploding Minneapolis music scene at its peak.
Morris Day burst onto the public scene with the group’s self-titled album, The Time, which included “Get It Up,” “Cool,” and “Girl.” Soon after the world was introduced the prolific Minneapolis music marvel, the group went on to record three more albums, including What Time Is It? (Featuring the hits “777-9311,” “Wild and Loose,” “Walk,” and “Gigolos Get Lonely Too”) and Ice Cream Castle, (which included the hit “Jungle Love”). After three albums Morris Day launched his solo career, releasing three albums: The Color of Success, Daydreaming, and Guaranteed. Combined sales of Morris Day’s solo work and The Time is in excess of 10 million units.
ABOUT CAMEO: Founded, produced and led by drummer and Harlem native Larry Blackmon. Cameo made its debut via the 1977 album, Cardiac Arrest. This album included the hits, “We’re Going Out Tonight” and “Rigormortis.” Two more albums, We All Know Who We Are and Ugly Ego helped establish Cameo with their core audience. However, it was their fourth LP, Secret Omen, including the hits “I Just Want To Be” and “Sparkle,” that began the groups journey to a whole new level of popularity and earned them their first of many gold and platinum albums to come.
Between 1980 and 1985 Cameo released 7 LPs that spawned several Billboard Top 10 hits. In 1984, their album, She’s Strange shot to #1 on the charts in both the United States and London bringing them both Pop success and critical acclaim. In 1986, Cameo released the breakthrough album Word Up propelling them to worldwide superstar status. The Word Up album was Grammy nominated for “Album of the Year.” The title song “Word Up”, went to #1 on both the Pop and Black Music charts. The second single from that album, titled “Candy” also went to #1 on the Black Music charts. The third single from the Word Up album, “Back & Forth,” peaked at # 3 on the Billboard charts. (1987) The following year, Cameo released the Blackmon-Produced LP Machismo (1987).
Cameo, is one of the first R&B, Funk, Soul acts to establish a residency in Las Vegas. They maintained their core funkiness for nearly four decades lead & directed by Blackmon and they are still standing as one of the most popular Funk and Soul bands of its era. In the process, they have sold upwards of over 20 million records and to this day, Cameo still tours, selling out venues worldwide.
ABOUT SOS BAND: In 1977, the original band consisted of six talented musicians: Jason Bryant, Billy Ellis, Willie “Sonny” Killebrew, Bruno Speight, John A. Simpson, and James Earl Jones III and one extraordinary lead vocalist, Mary Davis. In 1980, The S.O.S. band name was chosen and a fitting choice as the Sounds of Success debut LP went gold, selling over 800,000 copies and held #2 spot on the R&B charts for three consecutive weeks. Skilled trumpeter/vocalist/percussionist, Abdul Ra’oof, joined the band during their first world tour. The bands success soared from 1981 to 1986, creating five albums all on R&B charts; Too, S.O.S. Band III, On The Rise and Sands of Time. In 1987, Mary Davis decided to pursue a solo career. The band recorded two more albums, Diamonds in the Raw and One Of Many Nights. August of 1994, Mary reunited with Abdul Ra’oof and together they reconstructed a new band with the same unique Funk the S.O.S. Band was known for during the 80s. The band continues to tour the world and create new music working diligently to continue the great music.
ABOUT ZAPP BAND: Zapp unleashes funky, high-energy music with a contagious groove built for dancing, loving and good times. Made up of masterful musicians who have been getting down together since the late 1970s. Lester Troutman, Sr. (drums), Terry “Zapp” Troutman (talkbox, keyboards, bass), Bart Thomas (talkbox, vocals, keyboards, bass), Dale DeGroat (musical direction, keyboards, vocals), Thomas Troutman (keyboards, vocals), Riccardo Bray (guitar) and Anthony Arrington (sax) carry on the legacy of a tight-knit group of expert players and Funk, Soul and party band pioneers.
Over the course of 30 years, Zapp’s music has been sampled hundreds of times by artists around the globe, which has kept the band’s buzz going strong. Zapp’s music has had a profound effect on west coast Hip-Hop, featured in songs by Jay Z, Lil’ Kim, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Ice Cube and many others. Though Roger sadly passed away in 1999, the thrilling Zapp legacy lives on, fueled by his original creative spirit, with the hard-working, fearless current lineup still cooking up crafty new material and playing to throngs of jumping fans.
ABOUT LAKESIDE: The Original Lakeside journey began when a group of high school students from Dayton, Ohio formed a singing group and backup band which later morphed into a Funk band that landed a recording deal with Solar Records. Made up of talented musicians and a ferocious stamina that has sustained them for more than 40 years, seven of the nine original members still maintain. Lakeside was the first band to successfully use a “theme” for each album cover. The sound of Funk hits such as “All The Way Live,” “Raid,” and “Outrageous,” are known to draw people to the dance floor. Ice Cube began his career two decades ago with N.W.A — aka the World’s Most Dangerous Group. After penning some of the most memorable lyrics on N.W.A’s groundbreaking tracks “Straight Outta Compton” and “Fuck Tha Police,” Ice Cube broke away at the height of the group’s success. As he moved on to launch his solo career, his debut studio album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted (Priority, 1990) sold more than a million copies. A concept album about the fall and rise of the black man, Ice Cube’s solo sophomore effort Death Certificate (Priority, 1991) debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200, eventually selling over two million copies. This year, Sun Wine & Food Fest presented by MSC Cruises kicks brunch up a notch with an epic battle! Two local chefs will go head-to-head in the Uncas Ballroom with only 30 minutes to create the best brunch to present to celebrity judges Aarón Sanchez, Amanda Freitag, Maneet Chauhan and Marc Murphy. The “Brunch Battle Champion” will win a $1,000 Mohegan Sun gift card and have their brunch featured as a special menu item at Todd English’s Tuscany. Ralphie Aversa of DISH Network’s DISH Studio will host the event, giving the play-by-play of each exciting moment between the two talented chefs. Additionally, guests can enjoy a brunch buffet with complimentary cocktails as the competition heats up! Chefs can submit their applications to the Mohegan Sun website. The deadline for submissions is Monday, January 13th at Noon.

Access Hollywood co-anchors Kit Hoover and Mario Lopez to serve as co-hosts for
December 19th, two-hour live telecast.
NEW YORK, NY (December 11, 2019) – Superstore co-star Lauren Ash, Queer Eye culture expert Karamo and singer/songwriter/actress Kelly Rowland have been selected as judges for the upcoming Miss America 2020 broadcast, which returns to NBC for a two-hour live special Thursday, December 19th at 8:00pm ET/PT from Mohegan Sun.
The trio will judge the 51 compelling candidates based on messages of female strength, independence and empowerment in the candidates’ efforts in the areas of scholarship, talent and social impact.
Access Hollywood co-anchors Kit Hoover and Mario Lopez will co-host.
At the end of the telecast, one candidate will be chosen for the job of Miss America 2020 to build upon the work of Miss America 2019, Nia Franklin. Franklin has been promoting her social impact initiative “Advocating for the Arts” through appearances at colleges and universities and has taken part in many other events, including making numerous visits to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
This year features prominent roles for the judges, real interaction with the candidates and a chance to really get to know each of the finalists before the judges decide who gets the job and the crown of Miss America.
The star-studded production team includes many women as the Miss America Organization ushers in a new era of progressiveness and inclusiveness. The show’s new format will be led by a female co-executive producer (Meredith McGinn), director (Sandra Restrepo) and choreographer (Danielle Flora).
Miss America 2020 offers a new take on what many consider America’s very first reality show. It’s a perfect blend of Miss America history with the added excitement, intrigue and entertainment of today’s very best competition shows.
The show will be executive produced by John Irwin, whose Irwin Entertainment is producing the new NBC late night show A Little Late With Lilly Singh. His credentials include stand-up specials for Adam Sandler, John Mulaney, Norm MacDonald and Nikki Glaser as well as Red Nose Day, NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly and Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks.
For the first time in more than 15 years, the show will be led by a female director. Emmy Award-nominated helmer Sandra Restrepo has directed a multitude of live shows, including the first live televised musical performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway sensation Hamilton, the Radio Disney Music Awards and MTV’s live music series Wonderland. Restrepo also served as the show director on over 250 episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Also joining the Miss America 2020 production team is Meredith McGinn as co-executive producer. McGinn is the Senior Vice President of NBC-owned COZI TV, news brand LX and LX.TV, an award-winning production company that produces weekly lifestyle programs in addition to live specials and red-carpet specials such as the Golden Globes, Emmy Awards and Rose Parade.
Other leading names behind the scenes include Tim Bock as co-executive producer, lighting design by Oscar Dominguez of The Voice, production design by Joe Stewart and writer Jon Macks, whose previous credits include the Oscars, Golden Globes and Emmy Awards.
Saturday Night Live choreographer Danielle Flora also joins the production team to enhance the show’s new format.

Lauren Ash stars as Dina in the hit NBC comedy Superstore and as Scorpia in the Netflix original animated series She-Ra and the Princess of Power. She recently launched a podcast titled Giving It Up for Less, where she has friends and colleagues join her to overshare real stories about their lives that they probably shouldn’t tell. Ash previously co-starred with Rebel Wilson in ABC’s Super Fun Night, which won the People’s Choice Award for Best New Comedy Series and Comedy Central’s Another Period. Karamo is a culture expert on the Netflix reboot of the award-winning series Queer Eye. Karamo is tasked with making over the hearts and minds of individuals by helping them to confront and grow beyond internal and external issues. His memoir, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope, explores how the challenges in his own life have allowed him to forever transform the lives of those in need. Karamo began his television career in 2004 as a housemate on the MTV hit series The Real World. He was the first openly gay African-American in the history of reality television. Karamo was the recipient of the “2018 Human Rights Campaign Visibility Award” and was also invited by the Obama Administration to create policy and legislation supporting LGBTQ youth and their allies.
