Major Refreshes to Sachem Lounge and the Summer Entrance are also beginning soon
UNCASVILLE, CT (April 14, 2022) – $15 million will be invested on various projects that are now underway and planned at Mohegan Sun and Mohegan Sun Golf Club. By the end of this year, a new 6,500 square-foot VIP Lounge & Bar in Casino of the Earth will open and major renovations to Mohegan Sun’s two most luxurious suites (The Royal Suites) will be completed. Over the stretch of 3-years, significant course improvements will also take place at the award-winning Mohegan Sun Golf Club. Additionally, key updates to Sachem Lounge and the outdoor patio at Summer Entrance will soon begin.
With the aim of launching by late fall of this year, Mohegan Sun has started work on a new VIP Lounge & Bar to be located in Casino of the Earth. World-class architects and longtime Mohegan Sun partners, Rockwell Group, are contracted for this new venue that will stretch 6,500 square-feet and feature dining, a full bar and an alluring fireplace at the center of the venue. Rockwell Group is also working with the Mohegan Tribal cultural department to incorporate Mohegan influenced designs and elements through this new space, located next to BALLO Italian Kitchen & Bar. When complete, the VIP Lounge & Bar will offer a dramatic and elegant atmosphere, creating the backdrop for the perfect night out for Mohegan Sun’s Momentum VIP members. An additional food & beverage offering in Casino of the Earth will also be developed, with more information to be announced soon.
Upon completion of this new Lounge & Bar in Casino of the Earth, Mohegan Sun’s Sachem Lounge will also begin work on a renovation that will refresh and liven up this luxury food & beverage area inside Casino of the Sky.
A full revamp is also underway inside the Royal Suites, which are the two largest and most spectacular suites at the heights of Mohegan Sun’s Sky Tower. More than $3 million will be invested on these renovations that will undergo an extensive Fire & Water themed makeover. Both suites will be distinctively different to provide two unique luxury hotel experiences. Royal Suites at Mohegan Sun are 3,500 square-feet and home to two master bedrooms, two Jacuzzis, butler service, a large circular living room, panoramic views of the Thames River and more.
Major improvements are also coming to Mohegan Sun Golf Club (MSGC), the 18-hole Mohegan-owned championship golf course located in Baltic, CT and originally designed by the renowned Geoffrey Cornish. A 3-year multi-phase renovation will implement various redesigns and improvements across the course. More than $1 million is also being spent on brand-new John Deere turf equipment, which along with the course renovations, will improve efficiencies on maintenance and labor. Phase 1 is currently focused on eliminating select bunkers, improving dozens more and engaging in selective tree removal to help preserve the integrity of cart paths and improve turf coverage and quality. Replacement trees will also be planted to create more strategic division amongst holes and to sustain the natural beauty of one of the most scenic and enjoyable courses in all of New England. An overarching goal of these renovations is to improve both pace-of-play and the overall golfing experience for all levels of play. Mohegan Sun Golf Club opens for the season on Friday, April 15th.
Furthermore, the partially covered patio outside at Mohegan Sun’s Summer Entrance, where tribute bands are booked throughout the summer as part of Hot Summer Fun, will undergo key upgrades this year and into 2023. Highlights of this project include the additions of a permanent outdoor bar, a deck, a music stage and a re-designed area dedicated to activities and lawn games.
Mohegan Sun will also soon announce exciting new additions to its lineup of restaurants, which currently consists of more than 40 offerings, including the popular TAO Asian Bistro & Lounge which opened last year.

Dec 22, 2020 | Community Relations, Employment, Food & Beverage, General News
Mohegan Sun was recently recognized as “Industry Innovator” by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut’s annual awards, also known as the “ECTys,” aiming to recognize excellence in both business and the community. The “Industry Innovator” award showcases businesses of any size that have shown strong ability to adapt to the marketplace by introducing or embracing new concepts or technologies to better serve customers. This award also takes into account businesses that provide unique opportunities for its workforce development.
“Being recognized with this particular ECTy Award is truly an honor for Mohegan Sun,” said Jeff Hamilton, President & General Manager of Mohegan Sun. “Our goal is to always adapt and evolve to any business environment, stay on the cutting edge of customer service and develop rising stars within our company. Two key areas where this has been a major success is through key upgrades at our hotel and through our Disability Vocational Program.”
With casino & resort competition on the increase in recent years, Mohegan Sun made a major design upgrade to its iconic 36-level Sky Tower hotel. A full VIP treatment was rolled out through a “hotel-in-a-hotel” known as Aspire. Located on the highest levels of Sky Tower, Aspire guests receive their own private valet and check-in, as well as a unique arrival gift that joins sweeping views of the New England countryside and five-star accommodations. Aspire guests also can take advantage of their very own butler and access to the exclusive luxury food and beverage experience on the 33rd floor, aptly titled, Thirty Three.
Mohegan Sun hotel rooms now also feature an advanced and fully automated minibar by Bartech, which allows guests to purchase food and other items with ease, while allowing Mohegan Sun’s hotel front office to easily track sales.
When it comes to workforce development, Mohegan Sun has been an industry leader. Mohegan Sun’s Student Vocational Inclusion Program, which gains improvements and new talent every year, provides internships across various focuses for young people with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities. Local schools in Montville, Norwich, Waterford and more, are partners in the program that has now been running strong for nearly 10 years. Mohegan Sun’s Wardrobe department, Culinary team, Environmental Services (EVS), among other areas, have all had positive impacts from the program. As a testament to that success, many internships result in permanent and meaningful roles at Mohegan Sun.
While Mohegan Sun’s showrooms have not been open to the public during the global pandemic, earlier in 2020, an innovative food app ordering system (Noble) was implemented in Mohegan Sun Arena where guests can order concessions directly from their seat. This service will return in the future, when entertainment programming on a wider level is able to safety return.
Mohegan Sun, like so many businesses and destinations, also had to evolve and adapt quickly over the course of the global pandemic and become smart, creative and most importantly, safe. After a temporary closure that occurred in the spring, Mohegan Sun re-opened with well over $1 million spent on a health & safety plan that involved non-invasive thermal temperature scans, UV light technology throughout air handler systems, plexiglass dividers at transactional locations, rigorous cleaning protocols, mask requirements and much more. The Mohegan Tribal Health Department also operates on-site and proved vital in all phases of Mohegan Sun’s health & safety measures. They also played a key role in Mohegan Sun Arena becoming home to multiple bubble-site residencies for major sporting events in recent months, such as College Basketball’s “Bubbleville,” that featured 26 games, many of which were nationally televised, across 10 days in late November and early December.

For the third year running, MGE’s flagship property Mohegan Sun, the East Coast’s premier integrated resort destination, was voted “Best Casino Hotel,” in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, receiving the number one spot in the category, along with top rankings in “Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas“ and “Best Player’s Club” for its Momentum Rewards Program. Additionally, MGE-operated Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City was recognized for its on-property restaurant, Capriccio, which earned the number one spot for “Best Casino Restaurant.”
Nominees for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards were selected by a panel of experts, including editors from both USA Today and 10Best.com, as well as relevant expert contributors. This year’s list of nominees featured some of the most well-known casino and resorts in the United States. Readers voted over a span of four weeks on their favorite choices in each category.
“To be voted ‘Best Casino Hotel’ for the third consecutive year by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards is truly an honor. At Mohegan Sun, we pride ourselves on providing guests with the highest quality of service, as well as exciting amenities and experiences that can’t be found anywhere else,” said Jeffrey Hamilton, President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun. “We believe these recognitions are a testament to our outstanding team members, and we’ll continue to provide best-in-class service for our guests and devoted fans in 2021 and beyond.”
Mohegan Sun’s parent company, MGE, was also recognized as part of Forbes’ annual list of America’s Best-In-State Employers 2020. Forbes and Statista selected America’s Best-in-State Employers based on an independent survey of approximately 80,000 U.S. employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in their U.S. operations. The surveys were administered using a series of online panels and provide a representative sample of the U.S. workforce.
Lastly, but certainly not least, Mohegan Sun garnered a total of 31 accolades, eight of which were first-place wins, in Casino Player Magazine’s “Best of Gaming 2020,” including “Best Overall Gaming Resort,” “Favorite Casino Resort to Vacation at” and more. Through an extensive survey, Casino Player Magazine’s readers selected which casinos across the United States are worthy of being crowned the best in an expanding sea of gambling options.
“These prestigious accolades are a ringing endorsement of our commitment to providing an exceptional environment for our team members and guests,” said Mario Kontomerkos, MGE’s Chief Executive Officer. “There is no question that 2020 has been an unprecedented year for the casino industry, but these notable awards remind us of the importance of our guiding philosophy, ‘The Spirit of Aquai,’ which emphasizes our commitment in embodying a welcoming, cooperative mindset, displaying mutual respect for others and building relationships. We believe these principles are what makes us stand out from the industry standard.”
Since the establishment of its flagship property in Connecticut in 1996, MGE has continued its strategic growth trajectory with its first foray outside of North America as well as Las Vegas, marking the first tribal casino presence in the Entertainment Capital of the World. MGE’s developments in Las Vegas, South Korea and Greece will further strengthen the brand’s position as a master developer of global integrated entertainment resorts (IER) and set the standard of immersive and thrilling resort entertainment.
