First-Ever BrewFest Coming To Mohegan Sun This October

Beer lovers rejoice, as Mohegan Sun hosts a spectacular beer tasting event on October 6th & 7th in the Uncas Ballroom
The Summer may be winding down but at Mohegan Sun the fun times remain, especially when the first ever Sun BrewFest kicks off on Saturday, October 6th and carries into Sunday, October 7th. The big event, which takes place in the Uncas Ballroom, will feature over 100 beers as well as great food and activities and is scheduled to take place over three sessions.  Tickets will be $20.00 per session and are on sale Friday, August 31st through Ticketmaster and the Mohegan Sun Box Office.
Find Your Favorite Brews
Everything from Craft Brews, Microbrews and Imports & Domestics to limited editions, plus many more will all be available inside the Uncas Ballroom, making over 100 beers in total.  With that many beers, Mohegan Sun will conveniently provide tasting glasses, which can be kept as souvenirs as well as score cards to keep track of your favorite beers.
Various demonstrations and mini-seminars will take place throughout each session. Sessions will be presented as follows: Session 1 on Saturday, October 6th from Noon to 4:00pm; Session 2 on Saturday, October 6th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm and Session 3 on Sunday, October 7th from Noon to 4:00pm. During each of the sessions, brew masters will also be on-hand to discuss everything beer with aficionados and beer lovers alike.
Food sales will also be available in the Uncas Ballroom, with fresh selections from Michael Jordan’s 23.sportcafe, Jasper White’s Summer Shack, the newly designed Bow & Arrow Sports Bar as well as other local and regional restaurants.  The vendors Cork and Brew out of Southington, Connecticut and Coffee Breaks will be on hand in the ballroom as well.

ABOUT DRITA: Drita D’Avanzo is the wife of Lee D’Avanzo, who federal prosecutors allege is the leader of a Bonanno and Colombo crime family farm team.  While Drita’s husband is serving time in prison for bank robbery (for the second time), she is left alone raising their two young girls and freelancing as a make-up artist.  Drita was raised in the projects of Staten Island after her family settled there from Albania.  Under the aid of her hardnosed father who coached soccer, Drita would be invited to play for the Women’s National Soccer Team until she met her first love and decided against going. After a string of relationships, Drita met and fell in love with Lee. While pregnant with their first child, Lee would be sentenced to 8 years in prison for alleged bank robberies.
Drita realized during this time that she would need something to fall back on and that’s when she started her career as a make-up artist. She has since worked for various high-end cosmetic companies and plans to use her skills and initiative to one day develop her own cosmetic line.

Mohegan Sun’s Signings & Sightings Presents Mark Ballas

Dancer/musician to take part in signing and a very special hour-long acoustic performance on February 10th in The Shops at Mohegan Sun

WHAT: Mohegan Sun is set to feature one of the most anticipated Signings & Sightings events to date when when Dancing with the Stars superstar and rising singer/guitarist Mark Ballas heads to Mohegan Sun for an exclusive, free live performance in The Shops at Mohegan Sun.  Immediately following, Ballas will take part in a free autograph session at Todd English’s Tuscany as part of Mohegan Sun’s Diva Fridays.  The hour-long acoustic performance will take place in The Shops Concourse.  Spin Street will have Ballas’s debut album Hurt LoveBox available for purchase.

ABOUT MARK: Mark Ballas, one of the best performers on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, has won two championships in his eight seasons on the hit reality show.  The first title was in season six partnered with Kristi Yamaguchi and the second with Shawn Johnson in season eight.  Most recently, Ballas danced his way to the finals with partner Bristol Palin where they earned the third place spot.  When he’s not dancing for thirty million households twice per week, Ballas is focusing on his music.  His guitar influences range from Kurt Cobain, Paco De Lucia, John Mayer and Eric Clapton.  His debut solo CD, Hurt LoveBox was widely acclaimed by both fans and critics alike and helped Ballas become the “Artist To Watch” by Clear Channel in the summer of 2011. The Competition Heats Up During SUN WINEFEST 2010

Chef Showdown, a Grape Stomp competition and the 7th Annual Mohegan Sun Oyster Open take place during the weekend’s Grand Tasting

 A culinary face-off, mashed grapes and oyster shucking will highlight a competition-filled weekend during SUN WINEFEST 2010. A variety of events will take place on Saturday, January 30th and Sunday, January 31st including the 6th Annual Chef Showdown, 7th Annual Mohegan Sun Oyster Open and the first-ever Grape Stomp competition.

Sponsored by Hatfield® the 6th Annual Chef Showdown kicks off Saturday, January 30th at 1:45pm on the main stage in the Uncas Ballroom during the Grand Tasting. Chefs who submit the most creative, unique and inspiring recipe utilizing Hatfield® Flat Iron Pork Sirloin and Quick Ribs will be chosen as finalists to  prepare their dishes for a chance to take home $4,000, an exclusive VIP stay at Mohegan Sun, a custom Championship Chef’s Coat and a feature in an upcoming issue of Hartford Magazine. Following the 6th Annual Chef Showdown, Sun WineFest’s first-ever Grape Stomp sponsored by [yellow tail] ® begins at 4:15pm, January 30th, on the main stage. Teams will kick off their shoes and have three minutes to channel their inner Lucille Ball and stomp out as much grape juice as they can. To enter, potential participants can contact Event Director, Vicky Cirilli at 860.874.7742. First place will win $1,500, an overnight stay at Mohegan Sun and a complimentary dinner for two at Todd English’s Tuscany. Second place will take home $1,000 and third will receive $500.00, respectively. The SUN WINEFEST 2010 Grape Stomp will benefit the American Diabetes Association. 
Finally SUN WINEFEST 2010 concludes the action during the 7th Annual Mohegan Sun Oyster Open sponsored by Bud Light. Elite shuckers from the best restaurants, raw bars and shellfish and seafood companies on the Eastern Seaboard will compete to take down last year’s champion William “Chopper” Young of Wellfleet, MA at 4:15pm in the Uncas Ballroom on January 31st. All three competitions can be viewed during the Grand Tasting. Connecticut native Veronica Ballestrini to take the stage with a free performance and signing event on October 8th

Southeastern Connecticut native and singing sensation Veronica Ballestrini takes the stage in The Shops at Mohegan Sun on  Thursday, October 8th. The aspiring Country singer and songwriter will perform songs from her debut album, entitled What I’m All About, at 7:00pm, followed by a signing event at 7:30pm.

Nicknamed “V,” Ballestrini and her popularity have beaconed over the past four years with an emphatic following that has amassed 11.5 million plays on MySpace, with over 120,000 followers and 7.5 million page views. Ballestrini’s Pop-Country sound has generated a wave of praise from a variety of outlets including The New York Times, MusicRow.com, The New London Day, YallWire.com and Aristopr.com.
