Mohegan Sun Arena named “Casino of the Year – Arena”
The Academy of Country Music announced the Industry Award and Studio Recording Award winners from the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards at the Grand Ole Opry House Friday night in a special moment. Among the winners, was Mohegan Sun Arena, which ACM named this year’s “Casino of the Year – Arena.” This is the seventh ACM Award for Mohegan Sun Arena, and the 17th national award overall.
All Industry Award, Studio Recording Award, and soon-to-be-announced Special Award recipients will be celebrated during the 15th Academy of Country Music Honors on Wednesday, August 24th at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
“We feature so many amazing artists and different genres throughout the year at Mohegan Sun Arena, to the tune of well over 100 concerts per year, but Country music is always so popular here, including some of the biggest A-list acts, many of which started here in the Wolf Den and grew their fan base early in their career throughout New England ” said Tom Cantone, President of Sports & Entertainment for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. “To take home our seventh ACM ‘Casino of the Year’ award really is an honor and another credit to our hard-working team at Mohegan Sun and the relationships we have built over the years with the best-of-the-best in Country music.”
The “Casino of the Year – Arena” Industry Award is presented to an outstanding arena within a casino and selected by a professional panel of judges. To be eligible for the award, casino arenas must have bought or promoted at least four Country concerts during the year, be in good standing with all agents, and help promote Country ticket sales.
Mohegan Sun hosted Lady A for its first full-capacity public concert since reopening for live entertainment in late July last year. Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Brett Eldredge, Brett Young, and Chris Young also performed to sold-out crowds in the Arena in 2021.

On the heels of her triumphant headlining return to the iconic Stagecoach Festival, eight-time Grammy Award winner and three-time ACM “Entertainer of the Year” Carrie Underwood announces her new arena tour, The Denim & Rhinestones Tour. Underwood and special guest Jimmie Allen will perform at Mohegan Sun Arena at 7:30pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Jimmie Allen will join The Denim & Rhinestones Tour as his star continues to rise, following his first Grammy Award nomination for “Best New Artist” in 2022 and CMA and ACM Award wins for “New Artist of the Year” and “New Male Artist of the Year,” respectively, in 2021. His third album Tulip Drive will be released June 24th.
“I’m thrilled to be hitting the road again with The Denim & Rhinestones Tour,” Underwood said. “I’m having such an amazing time with my Las Vegas residency and look forward to continuing that next year after the tour. I’m excited to bring the new music of Denim & Rhinestones to life on tour, as well as put new spins on familiar favorites. We’ve been working hard already preparing an amazing show, and I can’t wait to see everyone on the road!”
Underwood will release her highly anticipated album Denim & Rhinestones on June 10th. The album is her latest collaboration with David Garcia, with Garcia and Underwood having co-produced her critically acclaimed 2018 release Cry Pretty, which marked the first time Underwood produced her own album. Garcia and Underwood also co-produced Underwood’s 2021 Grammy Award-winning album of gospel hymns, My Savior. The lead single from the new upcoming albums, “Ghost Story,” is currently climbing the charts and has garnered more than 30 million global streams.
Since early in her career, Underwood has designated a portion of ticket sales from her tours to support worthwhile charities and organizations. She continues that tradition by arranging for a donation of $1 from each ticket sold to be contributed to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which has been helping America’s heroes since 9/11 by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. The foundation is also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and aiding the victims of major U.S. disasters.

Today, The Smashing Pumpkins announced their North American arena tour with special guest Jane’s Addiction. Opener Poppy will join The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction at Mohegan Sun Arena at 6:30pm on Thursday, October 13th as part of the 32-date Spirits on Fire Tour.
Tickets are $149.50, $99.50, and $79.50 and go on sale Friday, May 13th at 10:00am via ticketmaster.com. Tickets will also be available at the Mohegan Sun Box Office beginning Saturday, May 14th, subject to availability.
The Smashing Pumpkins will perform on CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday, May 12th in support of the Grammy Award-winning band’s tour announcement. Later today, The Smashing Pumpkins will appear at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony in celebration of their tour announcement. Each band member will add their handprints in cement, joining a long list of global treasures before them.
When The Smashing Pumpkins first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. They spun together Rock, Pop, Shoe-Gaze, Metal, Goth, Psychedelia, and Electronic into a kaleidoscope of saccharine melodies, fuzzy distortion, bombastic orchestration, incendiary fretwork, eloquent songcraft, and unshakeable hooks. Upon their formation, their sound was different, iconoclastic, and wholly new – and it still is today.
As a result, The Smashing Pumpkins have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and collected two Grammy Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and an American Music Award. Their catalog is highlighted by the Platinum Gish (1991), the quadruple-Platinum Siamese Dream (1993), Diamond-certified Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), Platinum Adore (1998), and Gold Machina/The Machines of God (2000).
In 2018, they embarked on one of their most successful tours ever, the Shiny and Oh So Bright Tour, followed by Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. Meanwhile, 2020 saw the release of the band’s eleventh full-length and latest double album, CYR. As prolific as ever, The Smashing Pumpkins confirmed they will release more music in 2022 as they resume touring.
