UNCASVILLE, CT (December 8, 2020) – Yale New Haven Health, the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun have announced a new community COVID-19 collection site in the Mohegan Sun Thames Garage.
The drive-through site was selected to provide more community testing in the Uncasville region, but also to allow Mohegan Sun team and Tribal members access to fast, safe COVID-19 testing. The Thames Garage location is open to the public and Mohegan team members by appointment only.
The new Yale New Haven Health site will provide COVID-19 testing (symptomatic and asymptomatic) for patients with or without insurance. If a child is under age 18, a parent/guardian must be present. All adults over 18 must bring a photo ID. Face masks are required.
Appointments are required and can be made by a physician placing an order or by using the following link: https://covidtesting2.ynhhs.org/
The Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun recently expanded a partnership with Yale New Haven Health, to further ensure the safety and health of not just team members of Mohegan Sun, but for the larger surrounding community. This COVID-19 collection site in the Mohegan Sun Thames Garage is a significant part of that goal. Construction of an 8,500 square-foot health center located in Trading Cove lot, which will provide Primary Care, Walk-in care and Specialty care for employees, the public and Mohegan Tribal members, is also underway and planned for a spring 2021 opening.
Since temporarily closing in March 2020, and reopening to the public on June 1, 2020, Mohegan Sun has been at the forefront of making health & safety a top priority as well as assisting on important community efforts. During the spring and summer of this year, the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun teamed up with the Connecticut National Guard to serve as Connecticut’s Region 4 PPE distribution site. N95 masks, gloves, sanitizer and more were distributed to public health teams and medical services in surrounding towns, from the 125,000 square-foot Earth Expo center.
In the last few months and still on-going, Mohegan Sun struck major deals with Bellator MMA, SHOWTIME Boxing and the NCAA, to create bubble atmospheres for athletes to safely compete, often to national TV audiences. These events have taken place primarily in Mohegan Sun Arena, without fans in attendance. The successful execution of these sporting residencies is in large part due to the invaluable work and guidance provided by the medical professionals with the Mohegan Tribal Health Department and Yale New Haven Health.

Successful Hybrid Event Held at Mohegan Sun Paves the Way Forward for Live Conferences, Events, and Conventions During the “New Normal”
UNCASVILLE, CT (November 6, 2020) – Mohegan Sun and Northstar Meetings Group hosted its Reconvening for Recovery: Live! conference, a special event aimed at helping businesses navigate the new frontier of planning engaging, hybrid business meetings, conferences and conventions while adhering to the most current industry health and safety protocols. The hybrid event, held at Mohegan Sun’s Earth Expo & Convention Center, was the first-of-its-kind for the two brands and welcomed seventy-five in-person attendees, as well as over 1,000 digital attendees, who were fully integrated into the event.
As part of the exhibition, several educational seminars took place tailored to helping meeting planners learn how to bring back their events safely. Each of the sessions featured insight and first-hand experience from industry leaders, such as John Washko, Vice President of Expo & Convention Sales for Mohegan Sun, who discussed how meetings suppliers can help planners visualize and plan events safely and effectively; David Dubois, President and CEO of International Association of Exhibitions and Events, who touched on essential considerations for safely reopening exhibitions and events; Hope Holm, Regional Sales Director for PSAV, who demonstrated how to facilitate the new normal for hybrid events; Heather Hansen O’Neill, President of Find Your Fire, who discussed ways to move the industry forward; among many others.
“The goal of Reconvening for Recovery: Live was to inspire industry members on the bright future of business gatherings and conventions, and we believe we delivered a best-in-class roadmap for how to get there with the help of Northstar Meetings Group,” said John Washko, Mohegan Sun Vice President of Expo & Convention Sales. “As one of the world’s leading integrated entertainment resort destinations with best-in-class industry health and safety protocols, Mohegan Sun was the perfect venue to host the largest hybrid in-person and virtual event in Connecticut in recent months, safely showcasing a better experience for tomorrow’s guests, team members and convention attendees.”
In addition to the in-person panels, the event featured a virtual panel that consisted of four members of the Events Industry Council’s Covid-19 Business Recovery Task Force – including Amy Calvert, president and CEO of EIC; Michael Dominguez, president and CEO of Associated Luxury Hotels International; Allison Kinsley, founder of Kinsley Meetings; and Liz Warwick, vice president of meeting management and event strategy for Liberty Mutual Insurance. As part of the virtual panel, the task force members discussed the resources EIC is producing to provide best practices and guidance for live events.
“Reconvening for Recovery: Live was created to show business event planners how to alleviate risk by adhering to the most current meetings industry health and safety protocols and produce a hybrid in-person and digital event,” says, David Blansfield, Executive Vice President and Group Publisher of Northstar Meetings Group. “Meeting planners by nature like to see how things work and how they can apply their learnings to their next event. To do so, we set out to find the ideal venue to host these demonstrations, and Mohegan Sun checked all the boxes. The brand truly paved the way for the safety of future events through its enhanced cleaning measures, personal hygiene facilities, and enhanced air filtration systems that far exceeded our expectations, making it the perfect partner for this new venture.”
Following a day of captivating conversations regarding ways forward for the industry, Miss America 2020 Camille Schrier addressed the live and virtual audience with a presentation focused on transformation, as well as a demonstration of the science experiment which attributed to her winning the crown. In addition to the on-stage presentations, Schrier presented two video vignettes, one from the perspective of Angela Cox, Northstar’s senior group director of meetings and events, and Mohegan Sun’s Dana Lambersky, CMP, CMM, director of convention services – both of whom planned Reconvening for Recovery: Live. The second focused on Schrier’s experience as an in-person meeting attendee in the era of COVID-19.
In-person attendance of the conference was limited to seventy-five planners and supplier representatives, all of whom had to be within driving distance of the venue and complied with Connecticut’s travel advisory pre-arrival testing protocols. Remote cameras broadcasted “behind-the-scenes” looks at how Mohegan Sun and its partners produced the event, demonstrating current live event best practices to the meeting’s digital audience.

Nov 2, 2020 | Community Relations, General News
New Haven and Uncasville, CT (Nov. 2, 2020) – Two of the state’s largest employers are partnering together for the betterment of healthcare in southeastern Connecticut. The Mohegan Tribe, headquarte

red on their reservation in Uncasville and Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS), the state’s largest healthcare system, have been working in collaboration for nearly two years. Most recently, that partnership has expanded greatly to ensure the safety and health of not just team members of Mohegan Sun, but for the larger surrounding community. The intent of the collaboration is to holistically manage the health of those with chronic disease in collaboration with all members of the health care team with the goal of providing safe, compassionate, patient-centered care that is high quality and achieves cost effective outcomes.
“The philosophy our Tribe has practiced since the days of Uncas is called the Mohegan Way, and its centered on cooperation and working with our local communities,” said James Gessner, Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe. “Our partnership with Yale New Haven Health allows us to take this philosophy one step further by investing in the health care not just of our Tribe or team members, but truly focusing on the healthcare of our community members and all of southeastern Connecticut.”
Over the past several months, YNHHS, the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun have been working in collaboration on direct health initiatives including large scale flu clinics offered to all employees and their adult dependents. The clinics are being offered multiple days and at a variety of times to allow all team members the opportunity to participate. COVID-19 testing has also been available to the Mohegan team members through this relationship and recently expanded to on-reservation testing.
“The Mohegan Tribe goes to great lengths protecting the health of its team members and guests, but we know that as good partners to state and region, our obligation to safety can never stop at our borders,” said Jeff Hamilton, General Manager of Mohegan Sun. “That’s why, while we’ve implemented new, state of the art technology and cleaning practices to keep our team members and guests safe during the pandemic, we’re also thinking even bigger through partnerships such as this. Together, the Mohegan Tribe and Yale New Haven Health will offer services that help protect the wellbeing of surrounding community members both during this very difficult year, and also well into the future.”
Construction, which was halted temporarily due to the current global pandemic, has also recently restarted on a new health center. The health clinic, an 8,500 square-foot center, is under construction now in the Trading Cove lot. When completed in Spring 2021, the facility will provide Primary Care, Walk-in care and Specialty care, and will be open to all employees, as well as to the public, including Mohegan visitors and individuals in the surrounding communities.
“We are very excited about the partnership with the Mohegan Tribe and the opportunity to offer Yale New Haven Health’s expert clinical care to the Mohegan Sun family and the communities we serve,” said Patrick Green, president and CEO, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. “This unique partnership brings Yale New Haven Health’s care signature to the employees of Mohegan Sun and members of the Tribe, as well as the opportunity to expand our reach into the surrounding communities. Creating access to our YNHHS physician colleagues across the region as well as to our local centers of excellence will help to improve care and reduce costs.”
This comes after a smaller, Yale New Haven Health Wellness Center at the Eagleview Employee Center opened earlier this year. It provides convenient, on-site walk-in care for team members including for common illnesses and injuries five days a week. Patient Resource coordinators are also available six days a week to help with navigating the healthcare system, assisting in finding facilities and services, manage scheduling and appointments, and assisting with priority appointments for musculoskeletal conditions. In addition to this, YNHHS also offers to Mohegan team members confidential health coaching called livingwell CARES. This program helps team members and their families manage chronic conditions and make important lifestyle changes.
The relationship between the Tribe, Mohegan Sun and YNHHS began in April 2019 when YNHHS was named the official health partner and sports medicine provider for Mohegan Sun’s two professional sports teams, the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun and the National Lacrosse League’s New England Black Wolves. Later that year, the duo announced that YNHHS had been named the preferred provider partner to deliver high quality and more affordable health care for all Mohegan Tribal members, employees and their families.

For IGT ADVANTAGE® customers, the PeakSlant32 cabinet can be equipped with Bluetooth technology to enable operators to integrate with IGT’s cashless gaming systems technology, Resort Wallet™. The PeakSlant32 cabinet also includes IGT’s most advanced lighting and audio technology and an innovative Dynamic Player Panel that includes a 13.3-inch multi-touch display, an inductive wireless charging pad, and a USB charging port for player convenience.
The PeakSlant32 cabinet is backed by a vast library of regionally attuned IGT games. In the U.S., the cabinet launched with player-tested titles Wu Dragon™, Wolf Run® Gold, Lucky Wealth Cat™ and the exciting link product, Treasure Box™.
“As an extension of Mohegan Sun’s commitment to providing our guests with the most exceptional gaming experiences, we are excited to introduce IGT’s PeakSlant32 cabinet and the Wu Dragon, Lucky Wealth Cat and Treasure Box games to our casino floor,” said Jeff Hamilton, Mohegan Sun President & General Manager.“The cabinet’s triple-screen design and pristine presentation make it a standout in our casino. We also value the versatility of the PeakSlant32’s top display as it provides us the option to leverage it for promotional Momentum Rewards messaging or for vibrant game content.”
“IGT’s PeakSlant32 was thoughtfully engineered and artfully designed to ensure that it meets the needs of our global customers and their players, and matches the exceptional performance of the IGT core video slots content that it supports,” said Nick Khin, IGT Chief Operating Officer, Gaming. “The PeakSlant32 is a versatile, slant cabinet that our customers can deploy with confidence, feature in a variety of configurations and leverage to truly differentiate their casino floors.”
In markets outside the U.S., IGT will introduce the PeakSlant32 with proven, market-attuned content such as the USwitch™ multi-game bundle for operators in Eastern Europe and a range of multi-level progressive games for operators in other jurisdictions around the world. The PeakSlant32 can be deployed in a variety of configurations that accommodate social distancing.
The PeakSlant32 cabinet is IGT’s third Peak-series hardware to hit casino floors in 2020. In May, casinos throughout the U.S. welcomed back players with IGT’s PeakBarTop™ cabinet and in July, a Las Vegas casino became the first venue in the world to feature the PeakSlant49™ cabinet.
