Areas of Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun to be included in Phase One of Reopening
MASHANTUCKET and UNCASVILLE – The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe, two federally recognized tribes with reservations in Connecticut, will begin the reopening of portions of their reservations on June 1. As part of Phase One, Mashantucket Pequot will reopen portions of Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Mohegan Tribe will reopen portions of Mohegan Sun to the public on Monday, June 1, 2020. Both resort destinations are operated on sovereign land.
The two Tribes collaborated to establish new safety protocols and operating procedures for each property’s reopening guidelines, aimed at mitigating the risks for both guests and employees.
Based on the collaborative guidelines, each Tribal Nation has developed their own policies to address the unique needs of their respective property. Consistent with or exceeding the State’s phased guidance and safety protocols, each property has incorporated protective equipment and physical distancing in its policies. Neither property will open its concert venues, buffets or poker rooms and tenant restaurants will be open for take-out only. Additionally, both Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun will be catering to Connecticut and Rhode Island residents only. No out-of-state marketing to New York or Massachusetts will take place at either property and no out-of-state buses will be accepted. For more information on each tribe’s response to the pandemic and how they are helping their local communities, please visit foxwoods.com/coronavirus and mohegansun.com/updates.
“We’re proud to partner with the Mohegan Tribe to ensure we develop the most responsible plan for helping the state of Connecticut recover swiftly and safely from the crippling economic impact of this pandemic,” said Rodney A. Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. “The safety, health and wellbeing of our Tribal community, guests, team members and local communities remain our number one priority as we prepare to reopen. With the guidance from our Chief Medical Officer and the CDC, we’ve made significant investments to enhance our processes to adapt to the challenges of the new normal brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many casinos successfully opening around the country – we are implementing industry best practices to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Some of the operational changes will be obvious from the infrared temperature scanners installed at all entrances, to the requirement that guests wear masks and members of our team wear appropriate PPE. Behind the scenes, ongoing disinfection of all common surfaces will be performed at short intervals, as well the replacement of dice, tiles and cards in use at our table games. On behalf of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the entire Foxwoods team, we look forward to delivering moments of joy and celebration that help ease ourselves back into this new way of life through safe experiences and environments.”
“The Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegan Tribe have called Connecticut home for hundreds of years. We have deep roots within our communities and are fortunate to call many of our neighbors team members and friends,” said James Gessner, Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe. “As we developed our new guidelines for reopening which expanded on the rigorous safety policies already in place at Mohegan Sun, the safety of these team members, neighbors, partners and friends were at the forefront of each decision we made. We have spent the past 10 weeks putting extraordinary measures in place including cutting edge technology to protect the safety and health of all individuals who walk through the doors of Mohegan Sun as well as to ensure the safety of our community as a whole. The new guidelines, which were shared with state officials weeks ago, are based off recommendations from experts nationally and around the globe and have been implemented at several of our other resort destinations across the country – some of which are now open or will be later this month. As we enter our “new normal” we are excited to welcome back our team members who are an extension of our Mohegan family and to once again begin working with many of our local partners and businesses to help stimulate the Connecticut economy.”
In addition to the above protocols, team members at each property will receive training on infectious disease (with a heavy focus on COVID-19) safety and sanitation protocols to further ensure guest and team member safety. More comprehensive training will be provided for team members with frequent guest contact including Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Environmental Services, Hotel Operations, Gaming, Retail, Entertainment and Security.

Delivery of food was made on March 19th, after the temporary closure of Mohegan Sun
UNCASVILLE, CT (March 20, 2020) – Mohegan Sun, which has enjoyed a long
and impactful relationship with The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut (UWSECT), sent two truckloads of food (equivalent to nearly 15,000 meals) to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank in New London, CT this week.
Faced with refrigerators full of food across various Mohegan Sun dining outlets, and a temporary closure just underway due to the emerging global health crisis, Mohegan Sun jumped into action with community partners, UWSECT, to donate what amounted to twenty pallets of food that included fruit, vegetables, dairy products and other perishable food items. The donation will be combined with additional donated foods at Gemma E. Moran, and will be shared amongst a network of 60+ traditional pantries across Southeastern Connecticut and UWSECT’s ten monthly mobile food pantry distributions.
“It’s been a tough week for many communities and businesses alike, but to team up with United Way of Southeastern CT and ensure we make good use of a significant amount of surplus food, was really inspiring,” said Jeff Hamilton, President & General Manager of Mohegan Sun. “We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who was involved in this effort and hope it is a positive contribution to the dedicated work that organizations like United Way and food centers like Gemma E. Moran do every day.”

Feb 18, 2020 | Entertainment, General News
UNCASVILLE, CT (February 18, 2020) – Mohegan Sun Arena regrets to announce that Ozzy Osbourne’s 2020 North American “No More Tours 2” date set for Saturday, June 20th is cancelled. The “No More Tours 2” North American dates are cancelled to allow Osbourne to continue to recover from various health issues he has faced over the past year. This decision was made to accommodate fans who’ve been holding tickets for rescheduled shows and have been asked to change plans, some multiple times. Following promotional obligations for his new Ordinary Man album (out February 21st), Osbourne will head to Europe for additional treatments.
“I’m so thankful that everyone has been patient because I’ve had a s— year,” Osbourne said. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get to Switzerland for treatment until April and the treatment takes six [to] eight weeks.”
“I don’t want to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute, as it’s just not fair to the fans. I’d rather they get a refund now and when I do the North American tour down the road, everyone who bought a ticket for these shows will be the first ones in line to purchase tickets at that time.”
Refunds are available at the original point of purchase. All refunds, including fees, will be returned directly to the credit card used. Additionally, ticket holders who purchased “No More Tours 2” tickets will have first access to tickets when the next tour is announced.
Mohegan Sun Arena is now ranked consistently among the top venues in the world according to Billboard Magazine, Pollstar and VenuesNow. Mohegan Sun Arena is consistently ranked among the top three “Arenas in the World for its Size” and top 15 in the “World for All Size Venues.” The award – winning venue is the “#1 Casino Venue in the World,” “#1 Social Media Venue in the World” and a seven – time national award – winner for “Arena of the Year.” For more information on concerts and other great events, visit Mohegan Sun. The groundbreaking show that pulls back the curtain on the hospitality and entertainment industries is honored with Platinum and Gold
UNCASVILLE, CT (February 12, 2020) – Launched in
September of 2017 at the Tribeca Film Festival, and now reaching more than 5.5 million views, the original online TV series, Back of House, has been honored with top awards from HSMAI (Gold Adrian Award) and AVA (Platinum Award).
“Back of House allows us to shine a light on amazing Mohegan Sun employees. It allows us to welcome our viewers and guests to incredible events and amenities too, all in a visually entertaining and informative way,” said George Galinsky, SVP of Marketing Communications, at Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE). “Our team member’s friendly personalities are as energizing as the beautiful surroundings here at Mohegan Sun, and to be recognized by both HSMAI and AVA in the same month makes us all very pleased.”
Since 1927, the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has been committed to business success for hotels and is the industry advocate for intelligent, sustainable hotel revenue growth. The Association provides hotel, travel and tourism professionals with expertise to drive sales, inspire marketing and optimize revenues. HSMAI’s annual Adrian Awards competition recognizes the best marketing in the industry. They have now honored Mohegan Sun’s Back of House digital TV series, Season 2, with the Gold Adrian Award for Digital Marketing Innovation.
The AVA Digital Awards are administered by the Association of Marketing & Communications Professionals (AMCP). Since 1995, AMCP has given out international honors for excellence and achievement in the communications profession. Awards recognize marketing teams and their partners for executing effective communications, and are judged by several thousands of marketing professionals each year. Mohegan Sun has now won its first ever Platinum AVA Award for its Back of House digital TV series, Season 3.
New York based, Primal-NY, an award-winning production studio, and long standing partner of MGE, creates Back of House by collaborating with Mohegan Sun team members of all kinds. Primal NY also assisted in bringing Adam Sandler’s “Uncut Gems” film and Amazon’s Sneaky Pete TV series to film at Mohegan Sun.
Judges for HSMAI consider “innovation” a new idea, device or method that impacts new markets. An original idea that could disrupt an industry. Inspiration for the innovation must be to reach specific goals, send important messages, and produce business results within a set budget. Approximately 200 industry experts are invited to serve as members of the Adrian Awards judging panel.
All three seasons of the series welcome audiences behind the scenes to peek at how things get done when 20,000 visitors are arriving every day to one of the largest integrated entertainment resort destinations in the world. From regional up to international Back of House Season 3 across YouTube, Facebook & IGTV, has generated a more than 3x increase in viewership since the premier of the first season in 2017. Additionally, Mohegan Sun YouTube subscribers in Season 3 alone have jumped nearly 20%, largely attributable to the success of Back of House. It has now been seen online in 16 countries.
Season 1 featured Avalon Nightclub, Kenny Chesney and The Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay’s appearance in The Shops at Mohegan Sun. Season 2 had more special moments for viewers spotting Britney Spears and Martha Stewart. Season 3 features new Mohegan Sun team members’ along with a cake competition, a beauty pageant, and two episodes devoted to the exciting red carpet opening of Mohegan Sun’s ultra-lounge, novelle.
“With the amount of online and streaming content available at our fingertips today, our employees have generated breakthrough social media dialogue among both new visitors and our frequent loyal guests,” said Galinsky. “Typical visitors don’t get to see the employee excitement behind big events taking shape, or back stage arena preparations, or the work in our industrial kitchens, but our viewers do.”
Among the thousands of comments generated online, the social media sentiment is extremely positive. Back of House, viewable at backofhouse.tv, has previously won several awards including: Telly, Vega and Communicator honors. The HSMAI Foundation is using the award winning series to help recruit young people into the hotel and hospitality industry. Mohegan Sun has also discovered that high schools and colleges are studying the show.
