Mohegan Sun Arena To Host The ECC High School Boys Basketball Championship Games On February 26th

The Eastern Connecticut Conference gets its own “Run to the Sun” when the ECC Division title games come to Mohegan Sun; Tickets on-sale January 28th

UNCASVILLE, CT (January 9, 2019) – The high school basketball season in Eastern Connecticut is shaping up to produce another thrilling tournament season and along with the CIAC State Finals that arrive in mid-March, Mohegan Sun Arena will be hosting the Eastern Connecticut Conference High School Basketball Championship Games for the first time, on February 26th. The ECC is home to standout athlete’s, Dev Ostrowski of East Lyme, JJ Brennan of Waterford, Chase Anderson of Bacon Academy, Ken Turner of Ledyard & Max Lee of St. Bernard and many more, all looking to lead their teams to the conference title and beyond.

The ECC featured three divisions last year, from which two conference tournaments took place, with Waterford & St. Bernard’s taking home titles. The ECC was restructured to four total divisions for the 2018-2019 season, and tournament play will now consist of all Division I & II schools battling it out for the title, with the same taking place for Division III & IV. Both championship games at Mohegan Sun Arena will also be streamed live on TheDay.com.

The ECC has a storied athletic history, and high school basketball is certainly a notable category. From the 1980s to present, the conference has produced the likes of Harold Pressley (St. Bernard High School, Villanova, Sacramento Kings), Tyson Wheeler (New London High School, University of Rhode Island), Sam Cheung (Waterford High School, Coast Guard Academy), Alex Jensen (Stonington High School, University of Vermont), Mark Jones (NFA, University of Dayton), Kris Dunn (New London High School, Providence College, Chicago Bulls) and Mike Buscetto, (Waterford High School, SNHU). In recent years, the ECC has further entrenched itself as one of the best high school basketball conferences in New England, with incredible talent and exhilarating, packed crowds, often reaching the thousands for rivalry & tournament based games.

ABOUT ECC: The Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) is an interscholastic athletic league made up of 18 member high schools, whose geographical footprint reaches from the Massachusetts border to the Long Island Sound and from the Rhode Island border to just east of the Connecticut River. Jalen Rose, Jimmy King & Ray Jackson Come Together For a Special Fab Five Q&A at Mohegan Sun on November 17th

Michigan’s Fab Five: A Look Back takes place at 8:30pm on Saturday, November 17th; The Michigan Wolverine’s also play in Mohegan Sun Arena at Noon on November 17th

WHAT: Three former players from one of the most electrifying NCAA Division 1 teams to ever take the court will be on hand at Mohegan Sun inside the Earth Ballroom for a special appearance and Q&A session. The event features Jalen Rose, Jimmy King & Ray Jackson and is hosted by ESPNs Mike Greenberg. The group will relive memories and take questions related to their “Fab Five,” days in the early 1990s that took the basketball world by storm. Rose, King and Jackson, with stars Chris Webber & Juwan Howard, reached the NCAA Championship game in 1993.

ABOUT THE FAB FIVE: The 1991 University of Michigan Men’s Basketball team, known as the “Fab Five,” consisted of four McDonald’s High-school All-American’s (Howard, King, Rose & Webber) and is regarded as one of the most talented recruiting classes in NCAA Basketball history. Detroit natives Chris Webber (#1) and Jalen Rose (#5) joined Chicago native Juwan Howard (#3) and two recruits from Texas: Plano’s Jimmy King (#9) and Austin’s Ray Jackson (#84). In the first game starting together as a regular unit in February of 1992, the five freshman scored all the team’s points against Notre Dame. Four of the five members from the trend-setting team went on to play in the NBA.

TNT to Present State Farm® Showdown Hosted by Aaron Rodgers & Chris Paul, Friday, August 10th, at 8:00pm ET

UNCASVILLE, CT (August 9, 2018) – Fans can watch all the fun, excitement and competitiveness that ensues when NBA and NFL star players and legends compete from Mohegan Sun Golf Club in the first-ever State Farm® Showdown Hosted by Aaron Rodgers & Chris Paul, set to air  Friday, August 10th, at 8:00pm ET on TNT.  The show will be televised on TNT immediately following the network’s live coverage of the 100th PGA Championship from St. Louis.

Rodgers and Paul lead their respective teams in the first-of-its-kind, NFL vs. NBA charity golf tournament that showcases their skills on the course.  In addition to the team-centric, head-to-head competition, the athlete’s participated in a number of “skills challenges.” Top moments from the show – which features golf commentary from Ernie Johnson and Ian Baker-Finch along with comedian James Davis and Amanda Balionis as course reporters – include:

  • Rodgers and Paul sharing key “insights” into the drafting of their State Farm Showdown teams
