Barrett-Jackson Extends Northeast Auction, Sees Interest Grow Among Younger Bidders, High Demand For Customs, Trucks

UNCASVILLE, CT (June 27, 2017) – The atmosphere was electric as Barrett-Jackson’s extended Northeast Auction attractedthousands of registered bidders – including an increase of younger bidders – and surpassed the $94-million mark in total funds raised for charity to date. The Barrett-Jackson 2nd Annual Northeast Auction sold 630 vehicles, with sales totaling approximately $23.5 million at a 95.74-percent sell-through rate. 685 pieces of automobilia sold for more than $819,000, bringing the total sales to more than $24.3 million. Approximately 72,000 people attended this year’s auction, which was extended to four days based on the tremendous success of last year’s inaugural event.

“We’re extremely grateful to our sponsors, consignors and bidders for helping make this year’s Northeast Auction another banner event,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Several thrilling trends emerged, including a surge in participation by younger guests. On Friday we experienced the sheer excitement when a pair of young teenagers sold a Bandit Trans Am (Lot #449). We also saw the demand for trucks grow, along with top-tier custom vehicles that had been professionally restored or modified.”

The Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction docket included a wide range of American muscle, European classics, exotics, sports cars and one-of-a-kind customs. The top sellers at the auction included:

2017 Ferrari 488 Spider (Lot #657) – $434,500
1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot #709) – $407,000
1958 Dual-Ghia Convertible (Lot #699) – $269,500
1967 Chevrolet Corvette 427/435 (Lot #706) – $231,000
1966 Shelby GT350-H Fastback (Lot #665.1) – $220,000
1959 Dodge Custom Royal Super D-500 Convertible (Lot #691) – $220,000
The auction also claimed four new world auction sales records, including a ’53 Willys Wagon (Lot #319), a ’47 Indian Chief Motorcycle with Sidecar (Lot #352), a ’93 Land Rover Defender 110 (Lot #659) and an ’04 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom Pickup (Lot #714). In addition, the top-selling ’17 Ferrari 488 Spider (Lot #657) was the first ever to be sold at auction.

“Our Northeast Auction has evolved into an exciting automotive lifestyle event that’s unrivaled in the region,” said Steve Davis, Barrett-Jackson president. “We’re also the barometer for the collector car market and are the first to identify changes in the market. We intentionally design our dockets to capitalize on these emerging trends and create the best possible experience for our bidders.”

Barrett-Jackson also passed the $94-million mark for total funds raised for charity with the sale of a “life-size” Hot Wheels® 2014 Transit Connect. The van was donated by Ford and sold for $50,000, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Darrell Gwynn Quality of Life Chapter of The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. A ’96 Ford Mustang built by the students at the Jordan Vocational High School hammered in at $65,000 on Friday, with all proceeds benefiting Jordan High School’s automotive program. The Mustang originally sold at the Palm Beach Auction and was donated back by the winning bidders, Jeanette and John Staluppi, to spur additional funds for the school.

Sales of automobilia items were also a favorite part of the auction among guests. Sales totaled more than $800,000, a 7-percent increase in sales over last year’s record-breaking auction. The top automobilia seller was Lot #7387, a mid-1950s Polly Oil restored service station fuel island with two original Bennett model #966 gas pumps, which sold for $24,725.

The 10th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction will be held Oct. 19-21, 2017, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. More information can be found online here.

“The Ford Mustang is an iconic American sports car with a rich racing heritage,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “Carroll Shelby helped skyrocket the Mustang’s appeal in 1965 when he introduced the GT350. Today, the popularity of the Mustang continues to be fueled by great drivers like World Champion drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr., and we are excited to have him auction his custom RTR-C. Over the years Barrett-Jackson has sold some of the most high-profile Mustangs, and we look forward to continuing that tradition at Mohegan Sun.”
