The innovative online series that allows viewers a sneak peek at real hospitality employees in real work situations is also being used as a career building resource by the HSMAI Foundation
UNCASVILLE, CT – (June 11, 2019) – Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment (MGE) announced today that the second season of its original digital TV series, “Back of House,” found online at backofhouse.tv, took home four awards at the 25th Annual Communicator Awards, the leading international awards program recognizing big ideas in marketing and communications. The popular digital series also won two Bronze Telly Awards for Branded Content in Entertainment and Branded Content in Sports. Since 1979, The Telly Awards have recognized some of the best work in TV and Video. Earlier this year Mohegan Sun was also notified that “Back of House” is being used by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International Foundation (HSMAI) as part of a campaign to inspire future leaders into hotel, travel and hospitality careers.
Accolades from the 25th Annual Communicator Awards were revealed at the end of May. The episode called, “Preperation”, featuring Amber Cox, the WNBA Connecticut Sun’s VP of Sports Operations, was individually recognized with a Silver Distinction Award. Another Silver Distinction Award was received for the episode called, “Celebrity” featuring Mohegan Sun’s Celebrity Events Producer, Lindsay Cady. The most prestigious awards included a Gold Award of Excellence for Web Series Development and a Gold Award of Excellence for Tourism Branded Content. The show’s production company Primal NY, in partnership with Fact & Friction, were equally credited.
“We believe Mohegan Sun’s digital TV series continues to be recognized by industry experts, in part, because Mohegan Sun continues to be recognized for its welcoming, exciting, one of a kind hospitality.” said George Galinsky Senior Vice President of Marketing Communications for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. “The placement of the show into a career development program for the HSMAI Foundation was unexpected. It’s a testament to team members. The series aims to highlight some of the staff’s little known, behind the scenes skills and duties, and of course, their human connections with our guests. We are proud to provide fresh industry insights at backofhouse.tv for potential hospitality career professionals. What was originally meant to be pure entertainment for our guests has evolved into an informative platform for industry recruiting. This has demonstrated itself through the overwhelmingly positive social media response as well.”
On Facebook alone, total video plays for “Back of House” season two are currently over five million, and social impressions on both Facebook and Instagram have surpassed 7.5 million. “Back of House” has also just been recognized by the Vega Awards, winning a Silver award in the Documentary Series category. Innovative online show that pulled back the curtain giving viewers a glimpse behind the scenes at the hospitality and entertainment industry, wins national awards
UNCASVILLE, CT (June 6, 2018) – Launched in September of 2017 at the Tribeca Film Festival, and now reaching over half-a-million views, the original online series, Back of House, has been honored with two Telly Awards, for outstanding Branded Content and Cinematography.
Since 1979, Telly Awards have recognized the best work in TV and Video and have honored BackofHouse.TV with the following:
“We set out to showcase how we create good times for every guest on every visit. Back of House is informative and entertaining in part because our employees have inspiring personalities that are equally as impressive as our resort amenities. To be
recognized by the Telly Awards is something we can all be proud of on many levels,” said George Galinsky, Senior Vice President of Marketing Communications, Mohegan Sun.
Award-winning Production studio, Primal-NY, co-created Back of House with Mohegan Sun and the award-winning TV consulting firm, Fact & Fiction, was used to execute their vision for the show. The series follows a group of fun employees at one of the largest casino resort destinations in the world and welcomes viewers in to witness how everything gets done when 20,000 visitors are arriving every day. The original trailer for the the series currently has over 675,000 views and the show itself has eclipsed 500,000 views on Mohegan Sun’s YouTube and Facebook pages. The series generated a 54% increase in total subscribers to Mohegan Sun’s YouTube channel, where viewers have watched nearly 7,000 hours of series-related content, 80% of which were on mobile devices.
Season one took viewers along for a ride as employee cast members pulled everything together for Dj Khaled’s impromptu appearance in Avalon Night Club, Kenny Chesney’s induction into the Walk of Fame, and The Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay’s special appearance in the Shops at Mohegan Sun. Because the show runs in all hotel rooms at Mohegan Sun, the employee cast & crew are now being recognized across the resort.
These moments have resonated with viewers, who don’t often get to see the back offices, prep kitchens and rehearsal stages at a destination of this size and scope. Among the thousands of comments generated online about the show:
“It’s great when you enjoy your work, keep it up,” – Mixx P. on Facebook
“I was there that day!” – David S. on Facebook
“Ah, man, I’d love that job!” –Nicole H. on Facebook
