The second hotel currently in construction and on schedule for its fall opening, adds the final exterior piece
UNCASVILLE, CT (April 27, 2016) – During a special ceremony today, leaders of the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun celebrated a major milestone in the construction of the $130 million Earth Hotel. Taking place on the construction site, in attendance were Mohegan Tribal Chairman, Kevin “Red Eagle” Brown, Mohegan Sun President & General Manager, Ray Pineault as well as the Mohegan Tribal Council and Council of Elders.
On schedule for a fall 2016 opening, the new hotel will recapture many of the nearly 1 million room nights turned away since 2014 at the existing hotel. Allowing for more guests to experience the truly one-of-a-kind Mohegan Sun, in addition to the positive effects it will have on tourism as a whole in southeastern Connecticut. Kevin “Red Eagle” Brown, Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe, eluded to this very thing when stating, “This second hotel will increase the business, the excitement, the length per stay and all of those things that matter in our measurable, when it comes to improving tourism in the state of Connecticut. So we’re glad to have this day, have this project and were particularly pleased with our partners with this venture that helped us get to this point, A/Z Construction. We have a ways to go but as you can see, we’re still on time and on schedule!”
Ray Pineault, President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun added that, “Once this final piece of glass is placed on the tower today, we will only be 6 short months away from opening the much needed and much anticipated, 400 additional guest rooms here at Mohegan Sun. I can say on behalf of our Executive’s, Tribal Council, Mohegan Sun Team Members and so many others that have made this all possible, that it really is one of the more exciting project’s we’ve undertaken here at the property and will really allow for Mohegan Sun to plan further expansions in the future.”
The final piece of glass to be placed on Earth Tower being signed by Mohegan Tribal Chairman, Kevin Brown.
Modeled after the existing Sky Hotel design, the Earth Hotel reflects the Tribe’s sensitivity to the natural landscape and it pays homage to the geological and natural forms present on the property’s riverfront site. The hotel will be connected to the existing property along a scenic walkway connector. A 2,800 square foot outdoor terrace, with canopy coverage of 1,130 square feet, featuring fire pits, a grill station and bar service is planned for the ground level of the tower as well.
The Earth Tower is projected to have created 1,000 construction and permanent jobs, as well as 1,200 indirect jobs.
Beginning July 1st, reservations for late fall will be available! For more information, please visit: Earth Tower
