Mandara Spa & Mohegan Sun Open Another Notable Spa Concept, Marking A New Era in the Region’s Spa & Wellness Offerings
UNCASVILLE, CT (May 22, 2018) – OneSpaWorld, LLC, owner of the Mandara Spa brand, the Mohegan
Tribe and Mohegan Sun, today opened the highly – anticipated luxury Mandara Spa. The Sky Tower spa is the global Mandara brand’s 57th location. The spa will serve as the main spa on property and join its outpost Earth Tower spa, which opened in February 2017, introducing a wellness concept that is technologically advanced, yet rooted in traditional Balinese healing and infused with holistic and New Age experiences.
A 16,015 square – foot healing house, Mandara Spa elevates the experience at Mohegan Sun through its heritage of guest care and unparalleled service. The 13 – room sanctuary for the senses features 2 couples’ suites, 8 single massage rooms, 3 esthetic rooms, men and ladies calming lounges, locker rooms with amenities (sauna, steam room and hydropool), a spa reception with retail area, full service salon and a fitness center. A new floor plan allows for creative spacing of the relaxation lounges and the addition of features with optimal health benefits such as the Salt Inhalation Therapy wall, while the staple ELEMIS Spa Therapy product brand is a mainstay used in many of the new menu of services. Steps from Mandara Spa & Salon is a fully renovated fitness center as well, bringing the total square-footage to 19,000 between these three revamped spaces.
“Mohegan Sun and OneSpaWorld have a long history. Together, we have created successful spa and wellness brands,” said Glenn Fusfield, President and CEO, OneSpaWorld. “The Sky Tower and Earth Tower spas will continue a tradition of innovation and superior guest service while evolving its luxury ethos at every touchpoint. We are delighted to be a part of the much – anticipated Mandara Spa and look forward to continuing our relationship in creating and delivering a premium spa experience in the Northeast.”
“The Spa & Salon on the third floor of Mohegan Sun’s Sky Tower has been a place we have wanted to update and modernize for quite some time. Mandara Spa, Kenneth Park Architects and AZ Construction have certainly done that and more, as the space looks incredible,” said Jeff Hamilton, Assistant General Manager, Mohegan Sun. “We’re very pleased to see it all come together, and we’re very excited for guests to experience the fully revamped spa and all of the world-class features and services Mandara Spa at Mohegan Sun will provide.”
The Mandara Spa Sky Tower experience includes new signature treatments such as the Power Poultice Muscle Release, Hot Mineral Body Boost and ELEMIS BIOTEC facials. These therapies will join the likes of the Mandara Customized Massage, Fire & Ice Massage and Mandara Signature Facial, which were introduced last year in the Earth Tower and a lineup of mindful and wellness focused services debuting at the main spa.
NEW AGE RESURGENCE AND MINDFUL CONSIDERATION
As the Mandara Spa brand developed a menu of treatment offerings, a collection of ancient and modern treatments were selected for the new, New Age spa enthusiast. Crystal healing, sound meditation and breath work are not new by no means, but these popular therapies have resurged. Among the novelties spa guests will enjoy is the MLX Quartz, an Amber and Quartz Crystal Bed used to mold and shape warm crystals around the body to release muscle tension, detoxify and promote a deeper state of relaxation.
TOUCH MEETS TECHNOLOGY
The ELEMIS brand continues a history of innovation with its one machine wonder, BIOTEC. The machine features technology using galvanic current, oxygen and light therapy that provides spa therapists with the latest and most advanced tools to perform results – driven facials. BIOTEC facial treatments are where groundbreaking technology meets active ingredients and transformative touch to switch the skin back on and increase its natural cellular energy. Technology turbo – charges touch in four BIOTEC facials. BIOTEC is also the technology used in the Mandara Signature Facial.
SALT OF THE EARTH
A main feature in the spa reception and the calming lounge is the Salt Inhalation Therapy wall. Halotherapy remains a top spa trend and is equivalent to breathing the salty sea air. The negatively charged ions in salt improve health and mood. The calming and detoxifying effects of halotherapy can support the immune, nervous and lymphatic systems. Additional benefits are reduced stress and headaches, increased energy and better sleep patterns.
SUPER FOODS AND SUPER SERUMS
Mohegan Sun guests have long loved the ELEMIS product brand. While the new Mandara Spa is a brand concept that nurtures mind and body, the award-winning ELEMIS skincare platform will complement the BIOTEC services and the new Superfood Pro – Radiance facial as well as several nourishing and detoxifying body therapies.
DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
Mandara Spa Sky Tower and Earth Tower were modeled after the brand’s portfolio. Situated on the third floor, the Sky Tower spa exudes the same fresh, rich and earthy feel that is naturally luxe yet calmly collected. The spa reception makes a first impression with its modern feel, clean lines and a curated range of ELEMIS products. The reception serves as the gateway to the calming lounge, which showcases art and literature as guests take a pause prior to their service. Materials and accessories, including brass, bronze, gold, polished chrome, silver and stone, form an energy zone that emanates tranquility and sets the tone for the spa experience in which guests can select from more than 50 spa treatments and service enhancers.
Kenneth Park Architects, headquartered in New York City, is the interior design and architecture firm on record for Mandara Spa Sky and Earth Towers.
A/Z Corporation, with headquarters locally in North Stonington, CT, is the general contractor for the project and has a long history of having completed various projects at Mohegan Sun.
