Standout talents from Dancing With The Stars are set for a performance and signing on January 18th at 7:00pm
Mohegan Sun’s Reality Check will once again bring incredible dancing talent to the stage when Dancing With The Stars performers Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower take part in an all new Reality Check on Tuesday, January 18th. This live event at Mohegan Sun featuring a dance performance and live acoustic performance by Mark Ballas will begin at 7:00pm followed by a signing event at 7:45pm. This free and exclusive event will take place in The Shops at Mohegan Sun.
ABOUT MARK BALLAS
Mark Ballas, one of the best performers on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, has won two championships in his seven seasons on the hit reality show. The first title was in season six partnered with Kristi Yamaguchi and the second with Shawn Johnson in season eight. Most recently, Ballas danced his way to the finals with partner Bristol Palin where they earned the third place spot. When he’s not dancing for thirty million households twice per week, Ballas is focusing on his music. His guitar influences range from Kurt Cobain, Paco De Lucia, John Mayer and Eric Clapton. His debut solo CD, Hurt LoveBox will be available at Spin Street for purchase prior to and on the day of the event.
ABOUT CHELSIE HIGHTOWER
Chelsie Hightower was just recently teamed up with famous singer-songwriter Michael Bolton on season eleven of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Hightower began dancing at a young age, with a focus on ballroom, which she still attributes as her foundation. She won a national championship when she was just eleven years old and would later become a U.S. National Standard Finalist in 2005 and International Latin Finalist in 2006. Prior to joining the cast of Dancing With The Stars Hightower was a fan favorite on So You Think You Can Dance. Hightower and All Around World Rodeo Champion Ty Murray took home 4th place in season eight of Dancing With The Stars.

In addition, The Shops At Mohegan Sun, for the first time, will be featuring a special toy store, The Toy Basket, featuring a range of great gift items.

This holiday season, Mohegan Sun is making it easier than ever to get your shopping finished with our very own holiday toy store. The Toy Basket is open now and features a variety of products for both young and old. Guests can shop for the popular Mattel products like Hot Wheels & Barbie along with numerous Crayola and Lego gifts. UGLY SWEATER CONTEST
Mohegan Sun really gets into the holiday spirit with the return of the “It’s Not You, It’s The Sweater” Contest. The contest is currently in progress and runs through December 8th at 10:00am. To enter, participants are asked to send a photo of themselves in an ugly holiday sweater to [email protected] and include their full name, email address and phone number. On December 9th, the collection of ugly sweater photos will be posted in an album on Mohegan Sun’s Facebook page where users can vote for their favorites by clicking the “like” option by the photo. The photo with the most “likes” as of 10:00am on December 15th will win a $250.00 gift card to The Shops at Mohegan Sun.

Sun WineFest 2011 presented by Lexus will have an exclusive lineup of special events available to wine and food enthusiasts looking to enhance their weekend. Elite Cru Tasting, Celebrity Chef Dine Around, Whiskey & Bourbon Tasting and Bubble & Bon Bons events will provide guests with unique opportunities to learn about their favorite food and wine from world-renowned experts.
Celebrity Chef Dine Around
On Saturday evening, January 29th, Sun WineFest 2011’s Celebrity Chef Dine Around will feature some of the most prominent names in the industry. Food and wine enthusiasts will be served signature dishes by celebrity chefs, expertly paired with wines from the nation’s top winemakers from 7:30pm to 11:00pm in the Uncas Ballroom. The evening also includes a champagne reception presented by Möet & Chandon and a silent auction to benefit the Connecticut Sports Foundation.

Wine lovers can get up-close-and-personal with some of the “best of the best” vintages from all over the world at the Elite Cru Tasting from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, January 29th in The Cabaret Theatre. This event, in its second year, will offer select vintages from premium wineries and producers such as Antinori, Rubicon Estate, Dierberg & Star Lane Vineyards, Cliff Lede Vineyards, BOYANCI, Duckhorn, Terrabianca and more. The tasting will also feature oysters and gourmet cheeses and gives guests a chance to talk one-on-one with winemakers for the duration of the affair. Tickets for this one-of-a-kind opportunity are $200.00 per person which includes admission to the Saturday Grand Tasting and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Sports Foundation.
Whiskey & Bourbon Tasting
Sun WineFest introduces a new event to its all-star lineup of tastings with the Whiskey & Bourbon Tasting presented by Beam Global Spirits & Wine from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Leffingwells` Martini Bar on Friday, January 28th. The 3-hour tasting will give inquiring minds an opportunity to meet and enjoy the insight of Frederick “Fred” Booker Noe III, the great grandson of Jim Beam and a seventh generation distiller. Notable fine bourbon distilleries will also be on hand including Maker’s Mark, Booker’s, Knob Creek and Jim Beam. Dedicated space will also be provided for a premium cigar sampling hosted by AVO Cigars—Cigars in Perfect Harmony. AVO Cigars bear the name of famed pianist and legendary cigar connoisseur Avo Uvezian. After a successful career as a jazz pianist Avo Uvezian toured the Caribbean in search of the finest tobaccos and the best factory for making his cigars.
In 1982 he found both in the Dominican Republic. Today AVO Cigars are enjoyed by aficionados all over the world and Avo’s lifelong quest for perfect harmony has brought him great success in not one, but two careers – music and premium cigars. Tickets are $75.00 per person and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Connecticut Sports Foundation.
Bubbles & Bon Bons
Topping off Sun WineFest’s blockbuster weekend is the new Bubbles & Bon Bons event in The Cabaret Theatre from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Sunday, January 30th.
Guests will mingle with Jacques Torres, one of the most highly regarded pastry chefs and chocolatiers in the world, and Mohegan Sun Executive Pastry Chef Lynn Mansel, the Guinness World Record Holder for the Largest Wedding Cake. Food Network Chef Robert Irvine will also be in attendance for the evening which will give foodies an opportunity to sample high-end champagnes, chocolates and gourmet cheeses in an intimate setting. Tickets for this sumptuous event are $95.00 per person.
The weekend’s main event, the Grand Tasting takes place from 12:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, January 29th and Sunday, January 30th in the Convention Center at Mohegan Sun. Over 1,000 wines, spirits and beers will be on-hand for tasting as well as sample dishes from some of the area’s finest restaurants. There will be a nominal charge for the sampling of signature dishes – a portion of the proceeds benefits Channel 3 Kids Camp. Tickets for this weekend attraction are $70.00 for a one-day pass and $110.00 for a weekend pass.

Signing events to feature City of The Brave firefighters, Lou Piniella & Ottis Anderson starting on Thursday, November 11th
Mohegan Sun and Spin Street are excited to announce a special lineup of celebrities taking part in Signings & Sightings this November. These free personal appearances and signings will feature this year’s firefighters from the City of the Brave: Firefighters of NYC 2011 Calendar, New York Yankee great Lou Piniella and New York Giants legend Ottis Anderson. The events will take place on the Spin Street Stage in The Shops at Mohegan Sun on Thursday, November 11th, Saturday, November 13th and Sunday, November 14th. All Signings & Sightings events are free and open to the public.
CITY OF THE BRAVE: FIREFIGHTERS OF NYC, NOVEMBER 11TH, 6:00PM – 7:00PM
The 2011 City of the Brave calendar, now in its third annual edition, showcases NYC’s most passionate and well deserving firefighters. The calendar features heroes from firehouses located throughout the city’s five boroughs, and each has volunteered his time to participate, promote and share his story with the public. Guests who purchase the calendar will receive the opportunity to have their photo taken with the twelve hunky firefighters of NYC! A portion of the proceeds from the sale of City of the Brave benefits the active members of the FDNY. The fund, established in 1991, assists the families with medical costs, housing & repairs and school tuition.
LOU PINIELLA, NOVEMBER 13TH, 6:00PM – 7:00PM
Lou Piniella earned three World Series titles (two as a player and one as a manager) during his forty plus years in Major League Baseball. Nicknamed “Sweet Lou,” he is currently ranked 14th all-time on the total managerial wins list. As a player, Piniella had a remarkable career spanning eighteen seasons that included American League “Rookie of the Year” honors in 1969, two World Series victories with the 1977 & 1978 “Bronx Zoo” New York Yankee teams and over 1,700 career hits. He retired this year as manager of the Chicago Cubs and will go down as one of the most beloved and brilliant baseball talents of all time.
OTTIS ANDERSON, NOVEMBER 14TH, 3:00PM – 4:00PM
Ottis Anderson is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New York Giants who rushed for over 10,000 yards during his fourteen year NFL career, highlighted by being named MVP of Super Bowl XXV in the Giants victory over the Buffalo Bills.
An All-American at the University of Miami, Anderson was named the NFL “Offensive Rookie of the Year” in 1979 while playing with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team which drafted him 8th overall. Anderson is a two-time Pro Bowler and was also named NFL “Offensive Comeback Player of the Year” in 1989, after overcoming numerous injuries from prior years, and rushing for a career high fourteen touchdowns.
