STYX – Tommy Shaw, James “JY” Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips (along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo), have performed more live since ’99 than all of the previous years of its career combined. Two Super-Bowl appearances, Pollstar Box Office chart-topping tours with Def Leppard, Journey, Boston, REO Speedwagon, Bad Company (to name only a few), two more studio albums and no end in sight, STYX continues to conquer the planet, one venue at a time.
Spawned from a suburban Chicago basement in the early ‘70s, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual Arena Rock prototype by the late ’70s and early ’80s, due to a fondness for big rockers and soaring power ballads.
By the early ’70s, REO Speedwagon’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording, jump started the burgeoning Rock movement in the Midwest. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more. Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980’s explosive Hi Infidelity. REO rode the top of the charts with a RIAA-certified 22 million albums sold in the U.S. and 40 million around the globe, with a string of gold and platinum records and international hit singles.
Even now, fully established with songs on the radio in every city and town they ever set foot in, REO Speedwagon still has that Midwest work ethic. The band has gone on stage and in the studio to work- dozens of albums, thousands of concerts, and countless radio spins. Black Sabbath launched their world tour on April 20th with two shows in Auckland, NZ. They are now in Australia for performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, before heading to Tokyo for the first-ever Ozzfest in Japan on May 12.
Along the overseas tour, Black Sabbath—Ozzy Ozbourne, tony Iommi and Geezer Butler– are previewing music from their forthcoming 13. On the new album, due out June 11th, the band that defined Heavy Metal picks up immediately where they left off with eight sprawling songs (five of them are over eight minutes) that possess every ounce of the maniacal vitality of the Grammy-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees’ trailblazing work in the ’70s. Songs such as “End of the Beginning,” “Loner,” “Dear Father” and “Age of Reason” reinforce 13’s testament to the enduring relevance of Black Sabbath’s long-running reign. Produced by Rick Rubin (seven-time Grammy
winner, two of those as Producer of the Year), 13 will be released on Vertigo (worldwide) and Vertigo/Republic in the U.S.

Fighting of out nearby Danbury, CT, and known for his sensational all-action fights, Rodriguez has been a staple at Mohegan Sun and on ESPN Friday Night Fights, this being his 16th appearance on the network and 6th at the venue.
On February 15th, Rodriguez triumphantly returned to the world-class venue with a dominant sixth round stoppage of previously undefeated George “Comanche Boy” Tahdooahnippah which was broadcast on ESPN Friday Night Fights.
Included among Rodriguez’ outstanding career performances (27-6-3 15 KO’s) is the 2011 Fight of the Year against Pawel Wolak (July 15th) from the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Jennifer Pendexter from Colchester, Connecticut struck it big on Tuesday, April 16th as she hit a jackpot for over 2.3 million on a Wide-Area Progressive penny slot. The total was $2,330,336.63 and was won on a 1,000,000 Degrees slot machine in Casino of the Earth near the Spring Gateway.
This jackpot marks the biggest total won on a slot machine at Mohegan Sun since 2.16 million was won in July of 2011.

IN DETAIL: Reel in your chance to meet Captain Ralph Wilkins and Bill Monte of the popular reality series, Wicked Tuna, at Mohegan Sun as part of a special Reality Check event on Sunday, April 21st. These best friends from the Bay State will be signing autographs for fans in The Shops concourse at 2:00pm then answer questions in a live discussion upstairs inside The Lansdowne Irish Pub & Music House starting at 3:00pm.
