Peter Manfredo Jr. and Matt Remillard headline title bouts on January 29th
World-class professional boxing will be coming live to Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, January 29th at 7:30pm as TKO Boxing Promotions, in association with Mohegan Sun, presents two North American title bouts featuring long-time New England fan favorites Peter “The Pride of Providence” Manfredo Jr. and Matt “The Sharp Shooter” Remillard.
Tickets are $75.00, $45.00 and $30.00 and are on sale now at the Mohegan Sun Box Office and through Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster customers may log on to ticketmaster.com; call Ticketmaster’s national toll free Charge By Phone number 1.800.745.3000; or visit any Ticketmaster outlet.
Headlining the January 29th event, Peter Manfredo Jr. will face off against Matt “The Predator” Vanda in the ten-round main event for the NABF Super Middleweight Title.
The twenty-nine year-old Manfredo, 33-6-0 (18 KOs), is coming off a brutal first-round stoppage of veteran Ronald Weaver on November 5th in Cockeysville, Maryland. Earlier in 2009, Manfredo stopped Walid Smichet with a devastating knockout in the seventh round on April 18th at the Casino Montréal in Quebec, Canada.
In addition to his second place finish in the premiere season of NBC’s The Contender, Manfredo has faced world-class competition throughout his career, with many of his biggest wins coming in the New England area.
Since 2005, Manfredo has defeated Scott Pemberton, Joey Spina, Ted Muller, David Banks, Shane Benfield and Donny McCrary in bouts which have taken place near his hometown of Providence.
A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, 31 year-old Vanda brings a record of 42-9-0 with 22 knockouts into the battle with Manfredo. Known as “The Predator,” Vanda’s first big win of his career came on June 24, 2005, when he won a twelve-round decision over former world champion Yory Boy Campas.
In 2008, Vanda battled Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. twice, losing a hotly-disputed split decision in Sonora, Mexico on July 12th and losing a hard fought decision in Las Vegas on November 1st.
Vanda has won three in a row in 2009 against veterans Tocker Pudwill, Ted Muller and Phil Williams, all in bouts which have taken place in Minnesota.
The co-feature on January 29th is a featherweight showdown between Hartford’s Matt “The Sharp Shooter” Remillard and Dominican Rafael Lora in a ten round battle for the NABF Featherweight Title. The bout is a rematch of their action-packed September 19th bout, won by Remillard in a controversial fourth round stoppage, which Lora hotly disputed.
Twenty-three year-old Remillard, amongst the most promising prospects in boxing, has amassed an undefeated record of 20-0-0 (11 KOs), since turning professional in 2005. He went 4-0 in 2009, most recently winning a unanimous decision over veteran Marty Robbins on December 19th.
Now based in Irvington, New Jersey, Lora, 11-1-0 (5 KOs), was undefeated prior to the first bout with Remillard and is focused on revenge.
The undercard is headlined by sensational lightweight prospect Francisco “The Phenom” Contreras. A native of the Dominican Republic, 25 year-old Contreras burst onto the boxing scene in this country with a sensational first-round knockout of Gustavo Mejia on June 18th. He finished with four big wins in 2009, the last a dominating unanimous decision over veteran Marteze Logan on December 19th.
In a special attraction bout, hard hitting fan favorite, Adelita Irizarry makes her return to Mohegan Sun in a six round welterweight bout. A native of Hartford, Irizarry, 6-3-0 (2 KOs), won a four-round unanimous decision over Yvonne Reis on August 29, 2008 in her last bout at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Also making his return to the ring is popular junior lightweight newcomer Joseph “Chip” Perez. Twenty-three year-old Perez won his pro debut on September 19th with a terrific four-round unanimous decision over Juan Zuniga. In his most recent bout Perez, 2-0-0 (1KO), stopped Lewis Crews on December 19th.
Rounding out the card will be undefeated Russian lightweight prospect Adam Sargysan, 13-0-0 (8 KOs), Canadian junior lightweight Arash Usmanee, 4-0-0 (2 KOs) and the pro debut of outstanding amateur prospect, junior welterweight Michael Finney of Smith Station, Alabama.
Mohegan Sun Arena is ranked the 4th best venue by Billboard Magazine and was the 2008 recipient of a Country Music Award for “Casino of The Year.” For more information on concerts and other great events at Mohegan Sun, visit mohegansun.com. The LoCash Cowboys make their Wolf Den debut on Sunday, January 3rd. Country sensations The Lost Trailers are live on Friday, January 8th and California-based rockers Little Feat take over the stage on Saturday, January 9th. Charo brings her charm to the Wolf Den stage on Friday, January 15th, R&B favorites The Family Stone will perform live on Saturday, January 23rd and Country sensation Chuck Wicks will be gracing the Wolf Den stage on Friday, January 29th. Wednesday and Thursday Wolf Den shows are at 8:00pm. Friday and Saturday Wolf Den shows begin at 9:00pm and Sunday shows are at 7:00pm unless otherwise noted. Admission is free, but all patrons must be 21 or over.
Little Anthony & The Imperials is an R&B Doo-Wop group from New York. Throughout the years, the group has released hit singles such as “Tears On My Pillow” and “So Much.” The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April of 2009.
LoCash Cowboys have invaded the music scene with their hot, hybrid, musical style that is one part Country and one part Rock-n-Roll with a dash of Hip-Hop. Singing two-part harmony to musically-educated audiences, LoCash electrifies fans with their upbeat brand of music. A Country music fan has not experienced LoCash Cowboys, however, until they have seen the complete show, one that has left established artists and industry executives searching for their dropped jaws and popped eardrums.
The Lost Trailers made their debut at a Fourth of July concert hosted by Country superstar Willie Nelson. Their fifth album, Holler Back, was released in August 2008 and produced a Top Ten Country hit in its title track and a Top 20 in “How ‘Bout You Don’t.”
Little Feat is very possibly the last-man-standing example of what used to be the norm in American music, a fusion of a broad span of styles and genres into something utterly distinctive. Feat took California Rock, Funk, Folk, Jazz, Country, Rockabilly and New Orleans Swamp Boogie and more, stirred it into a rich gumbo, and has been leading people in joyful dance ever since.
Charo is a household name. Instantly recognizable for her witty humor, loveable accent and her mastery of the flamenco guitar, it is Charo’s trademark expression: “Cuchi-Cuchi,” which has endeared her to the world and made the name Charo synonymous with fun and excitement.
The Family Stone original founding members Jerry Martini and Cynthia Robinson are Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees and R&B Pioneer Award winners. Jerry Martini is the original founder of Sly & the Family Stone; calling upon Sly Stone to become the leader of the first inter-racial, multi-gender major American band. He has also performed with countless luminaries including Mike Bloomfield, Carlos Santana, Rolling Stone Bill Wymann, Robert Cray, Willie Lomax, Prince, Graham Central Station and Van Morrison. More recently, he has been seen on the 2006 Grammy Awards with a cast of all stars in their tribute to Sly & The Family Stone. Cynthia Robinson, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, is back on the throne! Cynthia, along with Sly, was part of Sly and The Stoners in 1966. Through her years with Sly & The Family Stone, she was notable for being an early, black, female trumpet player in a major American band. In recent years, you would have found her on many stages throughout the U.S. and Europe, playing with P-Funk maestro George Clinton, Larry Graham and Prince, to name a few.
Chuck Wicks has taken the Country format by storm with his Top 5 debut single, “Stealing Cinderella,” and his Top 15 follow-up hit, “All I Ever Wanted.” He recently earned a whole new audience of fans as a celebrity contestant on the ABC mega-hit Dancing with the Stars.

Halestorm unleashes a turbulent torrent of infectious Hard Rock on their self-titled Atlantic debut. The band-guitarist Joe Hottinger, bassist Josh Smith, drummer Arejay Hale and singer/guitarist Lzzy Hale-churn out uncompromising Rock n’ Roll anthems.
Craving Lucy’s current sounds and edgy melodies easily attract Rock fans as diverse as the genre’s audiences. The band’s original material straddles the nearly impossible: fresh and familiar.
12 Stones is a post-Grunge band formed in Louisiana in 2000. The band has released three albums; their self-titled debut, Potter’s Field and Anthem For The Underdog. The band has had several singles land on the Mainstream Rock charts including “Lie To Me” and “Adrenaline.”
Alternative rockers SafetySuit released their debut album Life Left to Go in 2008, spawned the hit singles ”Anywhere But Here,” “Someone Like You” and “Stay.”
Alien Ant Farm gained mainstream popularity when they covered Michael Jackson’s hit “Smooth Criminal” in 2001. Their latest studio album, Up in the Attic, was released in 2006 and the band recently released its first-ever live album, Alien Ant Farm: Live in Germany.
Bushwalla’s sound is a unique blend of Funk, Rock, freestyle, acoustic Hip-Hop with a soul deeply rooted in authenticity and optimism. Bushwalla’s debut EP release Ghetto Blaster is cherished by fans worldwide and highly acclaimed in the southern California media and radio circuit. The catchy hit “Ghetto Blaster” has left first time listeners and long-time fans with a reverberating melody that never tires. The full length album Autodidactical Freestyle & Radical was released in 2008. In their live shows, Bushwalla and his “1-2-3 Band” experiment with an improvisational party-type atmosphere captivating audiences week after week.
