The Who Plot Return To Mohegan Sun Arena

Historic rockers will perform live in Connecticut on July 20th

UNCASVILLE, CT (April 17, 2017) – The Who, one of Rock’s legendary and defining bands, are hitting the road this summer and will be making their way to Connecticut for a live performance at Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday, July 20th.  The show will begin at 8:00pm.  Fans can expect the band to take them on an ‘Amazing Journey’ through their entire career from the days of The High Numbers to classic albums such as Who’s Next, Tommy, Quadrophenia, My Generation and Live At The Leads up to the present day.

Tickets are $146.00 and $110.00 and go on sale Friday, April 21st at 10:00am through Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster customers may log on to ticketmaster.com or call Ticketmaster’s national toll free Charge By Phone number 1.800.745.3000.  Tickets will also be available at the Mohegan Sun Box Office beginning on Saturday, April 22nd, subject to availability.

The Who have sold over 100 million records since forming in 1964; they brought together four different personalities and in effect produced a musical hurricane.  Each of them was a pioneer. Wildman drummer Keith Moon beat his kit with a chaotic elegance; stoic bassist John Entwistle held down the center with the melodic virtuosity of a solo guitarist; raging intellectual Pete Townshend punctuated the epic universality of his songs with the windmill slamming of his fingers across his guitar strings; and Roger Daltrey roared above it all with an impossibly virile macho swagger. They exploded conventional Rhythm and Blues structures, challenged Pop music conventions, and redefined what was possible on stage, in the recording studio, and on vinyl. Now into their 53rd year, the band is still going strong and winning rave reviews.

Mohegan Sun Arena is now ranked consistently among the top venues in the world according to Billboard Magazine, Pollstar and Venues Today. It has won “Casino of The Year” at the Country Music Awards in 2008 & 2010 and in 2013, was voted “Arena Of The Year” at the G2E Global Gaming Conference in Las Vegas.  Mohegan Sun Arena was also ranked among the top 10 arena venues in the nation for 2014, regardless of size. In 2015, Mohegan Sun took home the IEBA award for “Casino of the Year.”  Mohegan Sun also won “Casino of the Year” in 2 categories at the 2013 & 2016 Academy of Country Music Awards. The Mohegan Sun Expo Center To Open Summer 2018

Construction has begun on an $80 million Exposition & Convention Center to be located near the Winter Entrance of Mohegan Sun, officials announced at a press gathering Thursday while speaking in detail on the full project; United Natural Foods announced as early partner

UNCASVILLE, CT (March 23, 2017) – Leaders of the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun gathered Thursday afternoon at the flagship property in Connecticut, to announce the official plans for The Mohegan Sun Expo Center. Construction is underway with a target opening date of summer 2018. The expansion will span over 240,000 gross square-feet and will be located by the Winter Parking garage and in close proximity to Mohegan Sun’s newest hotel, Earth Tower. The New York based architect firm KPF (Kohn Pedersen Fox) and the construction team out of North Stonington, A/Z Corp, are partners on the project.

The Exposition and Convention Center is expected to attract more corporate and association trade shows, in addition to exhibitions such as Barrett-Jackson and the National Association of Postal Supervisors. It gives Mohegan Sun a great opportunity to also expand current consumer geared shows like Terrificon and bring about tech industry shows, golf shows, musical extravaganzas, home-shows, motor sports and hunting & fishing shows.  One of the first partnerships announced today by Assistant General Manager, Jeff Hamilton, is with United Natural Foods Inc (UNFI), as he eluded to a full-scale food show already in early planning stages for next year.

Mohegan Tribal Chairman, Kevin Brown speaking at the event today as well, touched on more exciting partnerships to come and further positive impacts that the Expo Center will soon have for southeastern Connecticut. “This new conference center will help solidify Mohegan Sun as not just the premier conventions destination, but the premier resort in the Northeast region. It will enable us to host some of the largest trade shows in the nation and take back some of the lost conventions that seek bigger venues in Boston and New York,” the Chairman stated.

The Mohegan Sun Expo Center will bring in an estimated 200 jobs, including construction and permanent roles, with an additional 100 supplier jobs anticipated. Other key details and figures for include:

  • 21,412-net square-foot ballroom, divisible into two and featuring over 3,000 net square feet of pre-function space
  • The Exposition Center itself, will be 131,000 net square feet
  • Feature free parking, 6 loading docks from an open parking field and additional drive in access from 2 grade level drive-in doors
  • 18 meeting rooms in total, ranging from 360 square feet to 675 net square feet
  • A 1,263 square-foot boardroom with 230 square feet of pre-function space and its own outdoor terrace
  • 3,600 net square feet of outdoor space, which includes a large wrap-around terrace for the full center
  • A 5,361-net square-foot kitchen
  • Additional features include a mobile box office, up to the minute technology, digital displays inside and outside the center, free Wi-Fi, contiguous exhibit space

On the design front, the new Expo Center will be a column-free structure with clerestory windows, offering flexible programming within a naturally-lit space. The main circulation spine that connects the exposition hall to the pre-function area also provides access to the overall facility, including the ballroom and adjustable meeting rooms. Along this path, floor-to-ceiling windows and doors lead visitors onto an outdoor patio that adds gathering space in warm weather and buffers the building from Cove Road that loops around the entire site. Greenery extends east to the recently completed Earth Tower, which shares the same grand entry as the Sky Tower. Interior finishes will recall the Tribe’s cultural history, with custom carpeting and light fixtures that reflect Native American motifs, the nearby Thames River and the color palettes of the Earth and Sky Towers. Additional below-grade entertainment tenant space will comprise of 20,000 square feet of the total expanse, further diversifying the center’s mixed-use program.

Once completed in the summer of 2018, ideally in time for next year’s Barret-Jackson Car Collector’s Auction, Mohegan Sun will be home to the largest meetings and convention spaces between Boston, MA and New York City.

Connecticut’s New Equation For Relaxation = MS2

Mandara Spa and Mohegan Sun (MS2) inaugurate new luxury spa while expanding amenities to the recently opened Earth Tower; rooted in the Balinese tradition of healing Touches, the Mandara Spa Brand connects its Indonesian heritage to local influences at Mohegan Sun for an unparalleled spa experience

UNCASVILLE, CT (February 14, 2017) – Steiner Spa Resorts (Connecticut), Inc. today announced the opening of a new Mandara Spa, the global spa brand’s 51st location, at Mohegan Sun’s Earth Tower. The spa will serve as an outpost to the main Sky Tower spa scheduled to be renovated and rebranded as a Mandara Spa in 2017.

Mandara Spa Earth Tower is a 2,800-square foot boutique healing house, designed exclusively for massage and facial therapies. The seven-room refuge features a couple’s suite, six dual-use rooms, waiting lounge, and retail area. Spa therapies include signature treatments such as the Mandara Customized Massage, Mandara Signature Facial, and the Fire & Ice Massage. The spa is an introduction to the brand and a prelude to the highly-anticipated Sky Tower spa renovation.

“The opening of Mandara Spa Earth Tower represents our commitment to Mohegan Sun and its guests,” said Leonard Fluxman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Steiner Spa Resorts (Connecticut), Inc. “Since 2002, Steiner has delivered exceptional services and products to Mohegan’s hotel and casino patrons. We plan for the Mandara Spa brand to continue to transcend the luxury spa experience, offering multi-cultural elements with worldwide touches and local influences.”

As in architecture, in which square roots are part of the equation in the build, Mandara Spa and Mohegan Sun formulated a strategic plan intended to elevate the spa experience while meeting the ever-growing demand for spa services. The result: a timeless spa brand with two on-property locations; a relaxation hub for Earth Tower guests to unwind.

“We’re thrilled to offer guests a beautiful new spa treatment area, and especially pleased it’s the result of a tremendous collaboration with Mandara Spa. Guests will find this Spa to be an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable experience, as it goes right along with the overall vibe in our newly opened Earth Tower hotel. With Mandara also embarking on the remodel of our larger spa and salon in Sky Tower, set for an opening by the end of 2017, Mohegan Sun will soon be home to a truly luxurious, modern and all-encompassing spa experience,” said Ray Pineault, President and General Manager, Mohegan Sun.

Mandara Spa Earth Tower was modeled after the brand’s portfolio. Situated on the ground level, the spa exudes a fresh, rich and earthy vibe that is naturally luxe yet calmly collected. The spa reception makes a first impression with its modern feel, clean lines, and a curated range of Mandara Spa®, ELEMIS® and bliss® products. The reception serves as the gateway to the waiting lounge, which showcases art and literature as guests take a pause prior to their service. Materials and accessories, including brass, bronze, gold, polished chrome, silver and stone, form an energy zone that emanates tranquility and sets the tone for the in-room spa experience in which guests can select from any of 40 spa treatments and service enhancers.

Kenneth Park Architects, headquartered in New York City, is the interior design and architecture firm on record for Mandara Spa Earth Tower and the 16,300 square-foot Sky Tower spa, scheduled to be completed in Fall 2017. A/Z Corporation, with headquarters locally in North Stonington, Conn., was the general contractor for the project and has a long history of having completed various projects at Mohegan Sun.
